Can anybody advise me please. Have spent what feels like hours on phone to talk talk, who are my phone & internet provider, as I found today that I couldn't connect to the internet wirelessly. The customer service guy, who could barely speak understandable English finally told me that the problem must be with the master box that brings the wires into the house. I was constantly having to ask him to repeat himself as I just couldn't catch what it was he was saying.
I live in a flat & have absolutely no idea where the phone line enters my place or even what I would be looking for were I to go outside & wander completely around the block doing a search.
I did trace some wires that go from my living room into a cupboard in the hall, but goodness knows where they go to from there as the cupboard is full of stuff & without emptying everything out it seems impossible to see where if anywhere they lead to. They definitely don't lead outside, I know that much.
Anyway, customer service guy tells me an engineer will need to come out at a cost of around £55  to try to find where the problem lies as he felt the problem was to do with this master box I can't locate. I've said no way as I don't think I should have to pay for something that I feel sure is no fault of mine.
I suddenly got the idea that I should try to connect using the ethernet cable & managed to connect with no problem. :T So what I'm hoping for here is some advice as to what could be causing the problem with my wireless connection. Surely it can't be anything to do with the master box if I'm still able to connect using the cable?
When I try to connect wirelessly, my network doesn't even show up in the list of available networks if this helps.

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

If you can connect via a cable then your internet connection is okay. It is your wifi that is an issue.
Sounds as if you are not creating a wireless signal from what you have said.
Is there a way to enable/disable wifi on the router you have?0 -
Hi,
do you happen to have an AV sender on same channel, if so try changing that.0 -
Hi,
Which model router do you have? Is there a light on the front to indicate whether wifi is enabled or not? Perhaps wifi has been switched off, or maybe you have hidden the SSID - the name of your network, in which case, the wifi would be there, but wouldn't appear when you do a scan for available networks.0 -

Hi, no option to disable wifi on the modem that I can see. It's probably just a basic thing that is provided by talk talk with no bells & whistles.
Do you think it might help if I download new drivers for my wireless card in case that could be the issue? The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

Modem is a D-Link DSL 3680 looking at the label on the bottom. No light indicating wireless connection, just lights showing Power, ADSL, Internet, WLAN, WPS & LAN 1 & 2.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

check the device manager, see if there's a driver missing for the wifi card.
You haven't inadvertently turned off the wifi on your computer have you?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

GunJack asks a very valid question, on some laptops it's a switch, on others a function key, other times (less likely) a software issue. Can you connect to the wifi with a tablet/smartphone?0

Illogical as Dr Spock would say:When I try to connect wirelessly, my network doesn't even show up in the list of available networks if this helps. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
