    because 1st line tech support are just script monkeys, if it ain't in their script, they don't think it exists...you usually have to get through to at least 2nd line for them to have a small clue and amount of tech knowledge....

    But, if first line support did know about computers and networks and suchlike then they would have to be paid a lot more and there would be no "deals" to be had on broadband as the ISP's costs would go up, a lot.

    Get a longer ethernet cable they do come in handy.

    Also learn how to use the modem/router interface and what the settings etc are for while it is working.

    Also how to setup the wireless security.
