EA have removed the sold sign but left a hole in my wall

Options
So I'm a first time buyer and have now been in my house for a week. I came home today to find that the EA have removed the sold sign but left two big holes in the wall where the sign was. Is this usual? I would have expected them to fill them in as rain or ice in them could easily do damage. Yes, they're fairly small holes and I could easily repair them myself but I kind of feel that I shouldn't have to. Am I being too precious about my first home or should the EA have done something about the holes? Thanks

  • Obviously, once you own a house you are responsible for all repairs and so on. You could ask the EA to repair the holes but if it were me I would prefer to do the job properly myself rather than risk Bodge A Job coming along on behalf of the EA and making a mess of my wall.

Are they big or fairly small? What diameter are we talking? A 5p? The width of a mug?

It won't have been the EA, it'll have been someone who just goes round putting up/ taking down their signs.

Ring them, ask if they'll make good. And if not, external filler and get it done.

At a guess the holes were made with the previous owners permission, and you bought with the holes already there. You'll be lucky to get anything done by the EA - they worked for the previous owner and have been paid.
Good luck if you bother to try though.

I would immediately take the day off tomorrow and at some point between Lorraine and Jeremy Kyle there will be a no win no fee advert. Take the number, ring it and explain the what has happened. There is no way that the EA should be getting away with leaving two big/small holes in your wall and I for one would be going at them with both barrels expecting to be compensated.

    Good luck.

If large holes have been left, then it's because the mortar was already soft and crumbly when the EA put the sign up.

Are you sure that the EA removed the board, erection and removal of "For Sale" boards is often contracted out to firms specialising in making these boards.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • I have never before known an estate agent nail the sign to the house - how unusual.

It's always on a post just outside the house.

Maybe even just outside the garden.

This is a nuisance, having the holes left in the wall, but really not much effort to fix yourself.

Hardly worth making a fuss about.
No debt left now. Saved £111 in our sealed pot last year. And £272.13 this year! Also we have £2300 in savings. :j

    SPC #468 :D Target £250 for 2015.

you haven't really specified how much damage was done and how expensive/difficult it would be to repair.

My response to the damage would be dependent on that, tbh.

And the post is usually nailed to the wall...

Except of course those houses with no front garden. There are plenty of terraces around here that open straight out onto the street, old cottages too.

But OP I would definitely, unless there is obvious damage caused by them being careless, sort this out myself.

    Xx
