got an iphone6 and activated it Monday and had 'NO SERVICE' in top left hand corner of screen where the reception 'bars' are for signal. After long chat with Vodafone was told because i live in a rural area, the network isnt configured (or something) for iphone 6 yet, i found 3, EE and O2 networks but not Voda. Was told by Voda to wait 3 days while something is adjusted/optimised and to call them back, i live in a small village with poor reception anyway, by my iphone 4 works indoors as does my partners, but neither new 6 would get any reception anywhere?

Does this sound right?

Doesn't sound right. Is it the same network that works fines on the 4? If it is, replace the iPhone. If it's a different network, replace the network.

That sounds like rubbish to me. All vaguely modern phones can use all the 2G and 3G signals in this country. Not all phones can use all the 4G signals if they are 4G capable.

If the network works with an iPhone 4 it will work with an iPhone 6. If it doesn't then there is something wrong with the phone. That could be that it is faulty or it is not so good at using weak signals.

thanks people, I didnt think it made much sense. Thing is, we have 2 x new iphone 6's in the house and neither have any reception, both saying 'NO SERVICE' in top left hand corner

I'll call them again tomorrow and ask again, as the first person I spoke to could well of been in a call centre in a different country

Definitely nonsense, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 6 have the same 2G and 3G ability, the iPhone 6 adds extra capability via 4G. I would suggest the SIM cards haven't been activated in the iPhone 6's if they both aren't working.

If you have a Vodafone shop that you can go to, it might be an easier way to resolve the problem than hours on the phone to someone in a call centre.

The 6 has expanded capability, bringing O2 and Voda 4G to the party (where only EE and 3 could work previously). You don't say where the 6's originated from as they may be locked to a different network unless sourced from Apple.

Thats exactly what I thought d123, I'll chase them up again in the morning as cant get any reception anywhere, so im guessing they havent activated the Sim Cards maybe? (even though we are both keeping the same numbers)

If the sims in the old phones are still working (and those are the numbers moving to the new phones) then they definitely haven't activated the new sims, when the new sims are active the old sims will stop working.

I personally find the ability to receive signals on the iPhone series has went down since the iPhone 5. I've been with friends on the same network in the same location. They're using a 5 and i'm using a Galaxy S5. I'll have 1 bar of signal and they'll have 0 bars. Prior to the iPhone 5, we'd both be about the same.

  • the "bars" are a joke , you can either receive calls or you cannot , the analogue days are far gone!
