Is it possible to cancel without incurring charges?

  • The Mastercard doesnt offer any benefit here. Looks like they have lost out big time.
  • What's their reason for cancelling?
  • She is preggers.
  • I dont think whole name changes are possible so selling the tickets on is a no go. Getting a refund on the APD is going to minimal. I guess the only viable option in place is to rebook for a later time (subject to paying the additional fees)

Well travel insurance would have been no use then, it does however pay to get insurance the moment you book your holiday the extra time covered will cost you nothing ;)

You ready for this - they have not bought any travel insurance as of yet.
I believe the tickets were bought with an Amazon Mastercard. I wonder if they have any insurance....

Does indeed look like they've lost the lot.
If they think they can still go but on a different date, the airline or agent may be able to do something for a fee less than the ticket cost.
They aren't the first to only consider travel insurance just before they leave, thinking it covers possible medical emergencies while away, ignoring the possibility of having to cancel before you leave....
Some bank accounts, home insurance policies etc. do throw in travel insurance, so worth double checking that.

    Edit:
Just seen the reason, so that rules out changing the flights!

  • Wait a second.......STOP THE PRESS

A loophole - if they bought travel insurance now, which they will inevitably need. Can they not call up later next year and cancel under the terms of the insurance policy, providing they met the terms and conditions???

That would only work only if a genuine reason cropped up between now and then, keep in mind that that they are already aware of the pregnancy so that obviously wouldn't be covered even if you could find a policy that allowed cancellation in case of pregnancy.

I wonder what the best policy that allows for a decent reason.

they will need to declare the pregnancy to the insurance and cancelling due to this may be excluded
How far along will she be? if she is still in the period that the airline would permit travel and does not have a doctor advising that the pregnancy is high risk and she should not travel then the reason for cancelling would be disinclination which insurance does not travel
if she is going to be unable to travel due to the pregnancy period and what the airline allow then it is unlikely the insurance would cover this as it is known before taking out the policy
not declaring it and then trying to cancel due to it will be a no go too as it will be a material fact that is not disclosed
