Am I at the point now where I just have to bite the bullet and pay?
Or is it only Excel who can issue? This is from TNC and it says their client is Excel
All the debt collector (toothless) can do is go back to their client and suggest they take legal action. So they are trying to make it look serious, and are really just saying "Pay up or we'll tell our client you won't pay up". It's worded kind of like official legal papers to worry you. It's no more serious than their "final final absolutely honest this is the last reminder" letters.
The only one you need to worry about is one that comes from a court, or mentions a court claim.0 -

Cloudstrife. It's all about scaring you into paying. Don't fall for it please. When you realise the scale of the scam you'll be thrilled with the fact you never caved in and you'll want to inform everyone you know about the scam.0

TNC...the collections agency are now trying to call me all the time. They phoned once and said who they are and I hung up. Yey are now phoning me every day to speak to me.
Am I right in that I can just continue to ignore their calls?0 -
Yes, do not try and have a conversation with them, they will be recording it and they will try and trick you into incriminating yourself in some way.
Why not say "I'll just get him" and leave the phone by a speaker playing Rick Astley's greatest hits or something similar? They'll soon get the message.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
They just left a voicemail saying " hello, terminating the call will not help. I suggest you take our calls or get back to me by the close of play today" then started reeling off the account number etc0

Yes of course. If it's your mobile or a modern digital home 'phone look into whether you can block their number.
Or buy one of these: http://www.callsaint.co.uk/
I use one to block international calls and calls from 08 or withheld numbers, which has cut nuisance calls down to almost nothing. You can also block specific numbers or specific dialling codes (even if the debt collector uses multiple 'phone numbers they will all have the same dialling code).Je suis Charlie.0 -

It won't help them anyway.
That's what they mean. They're trying to make you panic and speak to them and then they can say ANYTHING to get you to incriminate yourself or pay up.Je Suis Cecil.0 -

Warning: you'll spend the rest of the afternoon laughing, so not a good idea if at work!
Particularly inspired was when he told the debt collector that the person he was looking for was at work, and gave him the number of another debt collection agency...Je suis Charlie.0 -

You beat me to it!
:rotfl:
In the end, that OP got a significant payout from the debt collector harassing them.
