I've just used this for the first time, ordering last week, and the seller despatched quickly but the estimated collection date doesn't seem to be at all reliable. Still waiting for the notification I can pick it up.

It is worth phoning Argos and giving them your name and asking them to check.

I had my first issue yesterday as a seller, my buyer emailed me to say her item was overdue and Argos had not contacted her about collection. I checked my selling page and it showed a message, something like 'awaiting processing' so I knew Argos had it.

I used live help and explained that Argos were holding the parcel and it was already 4 days past the last estimated dispatch time and frankly eBay just didn't care. They told me that I needed to be patient and seemed convinced I was the buyer despite me insisting I was the seller.

When they finally accepted I was the seller they told me that as long as I told my buyer it might be a few more days then the buyer should be absolutely fine about it. I pressed them about potential defects due to Argos not scanning my item, and they said that low stars were a buyers reflection of the transaction and they were left for more than just delivery times- but if I did get a low star then I should use live help who would look at the overall transaction.

I basically gave up with eBay, phoned Argos instead who were wonderful. They found my item , apologised it had been shelved without scanning , scanned it immediately and emailed the collection number to my buyer there and then.

  • From what I saw, Argos have taken on a lot of young people who need to learn the system. They are being swamped with parcels, and this will only get worse until the Christmas madness is over.

I think online shopping in general has caught a lot of places out this year.

It probably wasn't a great idea for Argos and ebay to send click and collect live right as the busiest shopping time of the year was about to begin, but I've collected several parcels from Asda who offer collections for their own items and collect+ items, and the cupboards they use to store them are absolutely rammed and there is stuff everywhere.

I saw one of these shops yesterday. They seem to be springing up for people to use as a collection address:

And I've recently sold to someone who used these people as his address:

  • I noticed a Doddle shop for the first time last week.

I think that click & collect in-store is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I am ecstatic about eBay and Argos. For people who can't always get to a store, being able to pick up parcels in a locker/shop/station of their choice must be very useful.

My Argos store told me that the volume of incoming parcels is swamping them. I will give it a rest until after the holiday is over I think.

It worked fine for us. Bought an item on Monday, BIN, Email on Friday saying it was ready to pick up, picked up yesterday, Saturday. All very straight forward and no dodgy delivery company.
