. Paid for item and thought I would get a notification saying I can collect after 12 hours/next working day etc.

How did you think the item was going to get to your local shop so quickly?

I'll be quite happy to bet that more than a large proportion of ebay buyers will think that argos hold the stock. It's not explicitly stated, and a large proportion of buyers will not think about the logistics of how it works (why would they?).

Because its the sort of thing that Argos sell and I (wrongly) assumed it would be an argos stock item.

If it was pointed out in the listing that the item would be posted by the selelr to Argos, then I would have just had it sent to my home address.

I thought the while idea of click and collect was something like a reserve/buy online feature that allowed you then to pop to your local store to colelct after so many hours/next working day.
  • Argos have their own click and collect system, which you access via their website. If you buy on eBay, Argos is just an alternative address - just as some people have things sent to their work address.

Argos have a range of goods on display in store, it's not just ordering out of a catalogue.

They trialled this before it went nationwide I believe so it must be worth it to them.

Just sent my first item to an Argos store. Thankfully only a low priced item. Although bizarrely was something that would go through the letter box, so not sure why they had it sent to Argos.
The only thing I've sent to an Argos so far was also a small item which would fit through the letterbox. I did think it was a bit odd that the customer would use Click and Collect for that, but maybe they use it to avoid other members of their household seeing the packages containing their Christmas presents arriving. It's also possible that they mistakenly thought it would be quicker.
  • I had exactly at the OP did, but it was for all my children's and my mum's main christmas presents (tablets). I rang Argos in the end as I had proof of delivery from Parcelforce, and the creep in the estimated date at Argos was due to Argos not scanning parcel into their system - they'd lost it. After hissy fit they managed to find it but it was nearly 2 weeks after they had received it.

My second parcel Argos never found, so I've now had a refund. I think it's only as good as your Argos store is - would definitely recommend sending signed for to Argos as can prove they've lost it, without the proof it got to Argos think the seller just has to suck it up.

I would NOT use this service again

I've just used this for the first time, ordering last week, and the seller despatched quickly but the estimated collection date doesn't seem to be at all reliable. Still waiting for the notification I can pick it up.
  • The Argos I use told me that the number of bags of parcels is ever increasing, and the post comes later and later. They need to scan all the parcels, which should generate an automatic email notification.

The post came when I was in there, and they kindly pulled out some more for me and scanned them immediately.
