The only time I've had a puncture repaired I'd bought the tyre earlier that day, driven 35 miles, then noticed a slow puncture from a stone.

Someone who has used tyreweld or other stuff sprayed in presumably had no spare wheel, and presumably had a puncture bad enough that they couldn't drive the car without using it.

Any tyre that has been driven for any distance, which isn't specifically designed to do so, is scrap, as the two faces rub against each other and wear the rubber away in granules.

Any tyre that has had either a repair plug or stuff sprayed in, and is again leaking at exactly the same place, may have let in water and have rust spreading in the steel reinforcing belt, which makes it prone to delamination.

Maybe these are also part of the reasons they declined to repair that tyre.

Nearly new tyre, that's already had a leak before and was bodged with Tyre Weld rather than getting a professional to fix it?

What sort of professional would fix a car tyre? A chartered engineer?

Wow, I admire your faith in the mechanics industry.
    It.s not a scam hey?

Lol, a nearly new tyre with a screw right in the middle. No other problems with tyre and they tell me they can't do a puncture repair.

It's a licence to print money and a scam in my opinion.

I've had too many times to mention when I've been scammed by possibly one of the worst industries for it.

I guess you must all be mechanics?

Did it have tyreweld in it

Did they force you to spend £170 on a new tyre

Maybe one who gets paid for doing it rather than a hobby.

It's alright him insulting them, but they have many parts of their job which if not done right could lead to your death....
Bet they don't drive round with 16 year old brake fluid either.

I had a flat tyre last week; I took the car to my local garage and asked them to look at it whilst I went off to the supermarket.

When I got back the person said that they couldn't find a problem with the tyre and had put a seal around the edge to cover the possibility it was leaking.

They said that, since they had supplied & fitted it a couple of months before there would be no charge.
  • Got back from a 3 hour drive from Glasgow with tourer. My hubby knew straight away what 'Tyre Spot' we're going to say.
A guy was waiting before my hubby and asked for a quick repair of the tyre costing £20.
    Same thing screw in tyre.
So he waited half an hour they came back and said the screw was too close to the tread to repair £50 for a new tyre.
They've done this on many occasions, to my hubby and others.
Yes I believe it is a scam. £50 for cheapest tyre! Shheessh....

Actually it is nothing to do with the tread it is how close to the sidewall the puncture is.

And you can repair a tyre that has had TyreWeld used.

It is just a nightmare to clean out the TyreWeld and few people want to do it.

If you use the kit I do you can do them on the edge, cost less than £5 on ebay. Is same as garage uses I went to for 15 years.
Does this kit have special exceptions in the eyes of the law then?
Since a repair round the edge is not just illegal but unsafe.
  • You can have tyres (not all, some high speed ratings are a no no) repaired on the shoulder and even the sidewall, but your local tyre fitter isn't qualified and wouldn't know how to anyway.

Such tyres need to be submitted to a professional and rare tyre repair workshops who are able and specialise in this work, not cheap mind we're not talking about a glorified bicyle puncture repair kit, so probably only worth considering if the tyre is nearly new.
