Hi all used my natwest contactless card for the first time yesterday. I have a receipt to say that the payment went through but its not showing on online banking that the money has been taken. I thought this should show up in real time that the money has left your account does it take longer using contactless. Not very good if it does as you could get in all sorts of trouble. with going OD

Most contactless payments are offline so the bank will not know the transaction has taken place until the retailer claims the money.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

My contactless payments on my Natwest card take about 4 days to show on my account.
You need to remember to consider the amount you have spent with contactless payments, as these will not show on your account immediately so you could spend the money elsewhere and become overdrawn if not careful.0 -
my wife has just used her card and it has come off immediate. god this could end up being a nightmare. not knowing if its come off or not.0

in this day and age it should update in real time so you can't spend money you haven't got.0

It would be gigantically expensive for retailers to report all transactions, especially the low value ones in real time, especially the low value ones.
And it would still not solve the issue that you may have committed other money to be paid from your available funds. Such as Direct Debits and Standing Orders.
You just need to assume responsibility for your own money. It can be done, tens of millions of people do it every day.0 -
You know that you have spent the money. Don't even think that some purchase might not register on your bank account. They will all be reflected on your bank statement, and each purchase will show as a separate transaction.sparky260500 wrote: »not knowing if its come off or not.0 -

What ever did we do before the days of internet banking!?!
What we did was keep a note of all that we spent by keeping receipts or writing down the amount we spent and deducted this from our available balance.
Its not up to the bank to keep an eye on your spending, its down to you to take responsibility for what you spend.
Contactless payments and how they are processed depends on how the retailer processes these payments. Some take 4 days and others are deducted immediately.
I would suggest you don't make contactless payments if you feel its going to cause you problems and you cant deduct this from your available balance yourself.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
