And now those who hang out in the pensions board have found out about this, have a look at the response over there by people who are actually doing the day to day FI and retirement planning guiding work already.

It's a rather good idea to seek feedback from those who use a section before chopping out its core planning content.
  • Thanks jamesd, I've replied on that thread.

I see support in this thread from MFW regulars for the new board - but no mention of where it should go until Andrea's 'probably a sub-board of Pensions' suggestion. It needs to be pointed out that there isn't a Pensions board, it is Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning. There are currently plenty of questions from people in their 20s and 30s thinking abot long-term financial planning so really it's already covered.
What could make more sense is to have a Financial Independence Planning board as a *parent* of both MFW and PARP, as these are just different ways of approaching FI. I certainly don't think it a good idea to dilute the current PARP board by splitting it.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Thanks for your measured response David, I do feel the FI idea is an overarching principle and, taken to its extreme, could allow people to become financially independent in their 30's. They are not going to just use 'pensions and annunities' and are not necessarily retiring either. A FI board probably sits above the Savings thread as well.

I think overarching goes beyond FI. There's already a term "lifetime financial planning" that encompasses many of the things that are seen over in the pensions, annuities and retirement planning section:

    1. How or if to compromise between making pension contributions and accumulating a deposit for a first home purchase.
    2. Planning on getting to a point where it's possible to live without a job, as the most basic retirement income level.
    3. Planning on a desired retirement target and when to try meet it.
    4. Planning around inheritance tax and inheritance in general.
    5. Care planning crops up from time to time, but much less often.

FI is just a part of lifetime financial planning.
  • Hi All,

Can we get a loan even in bad credit? If yes then what is the process to apply and where to approach for the same? Please suggest.

Gallygirl I really like this idea, did anything come of it? I have said on my MFW diary before sometimes it feels like an everything else diary and I wonder if it's not necessarily the right place but I like the friendly feedback and chattiness of the MFW board so I stay put.
    Mortgage [STRIKE]£269,000[/STRIKE] £258,987 / MF date [STRIKE]June'49[/STRIKE] June'49
    Debt £24,990 / Debt Free Est. May'21

It seems to have died a death - I won't be resurrecting it after last time so feel free to ramble on your diary as the rest of us do on ours :D.

  • Hi!

Some forumites on the Pensions board had some queries about it. We're looking at those first then making a final decision :)
