  • He needed a new coat and chose something from M&S that was £129. Managed to get it with 30% off and have then bought him a cheap print from Etsy (£4.99) and will pick up a frame for it. We usually spend about £100 on each other but we never discuss a budget or anything.

Usually would be 50-100 but started doing 12 dates of christmas and decided one of them would be a weekend away which cost 300 quid. However if I count half of all money spent as being on me as I am the other half of each date it is more like 250. This will have to be his birthday present as well though as he is 40 next year.
  • We both have December birthdays too!
This year we each spent more than usual on the birthdays presents, both were items bought at antique fairs and both way above our usual budget.

So Christmas presents will be three or four small inexpensive items, including books from a book warehouse, a DVD etc.

However we have each bought items for the home recently, some useful (a kettle and a humidifier), some useful and decorative (a lamp, blinds).

There is rarely anything I want or need, or I prefer to choose myself, so I am hard to buy for. DH has expensive hobbies, but again he prefers to get things himself.

I've put £200-300 but that is unusual. I usually spend a max of £50-100 but I've got him an expensive food mixer that was on offer as I know that he will love it and I can manage it this year.

  • I think I have spent around £450 ish which is pretty much the standard for me. Seems an awful lot when you write it down but it has all been paid for and nothing is on credit. Just don't ask me to work out how much I have spent on my children! (all cash, no credit).

We used to spend around £200 on each other but each year the budget has come down as we've had other things to spend our money on (home, wedding, baby!). This year we've jointly bought a coffee machine for £120 and getting little surprises for each other with a £30 budget. I don't like the wastefulness around Christmas and feel terrible that we fill our home with useless gifts at Christmas then spend the whole year trying to get rid of them! :p
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!
