  • Day 32 of following my dreams

Hi everyone  Just a quick update!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Years!

Mine was one of the best. But I fell into the usual trap of overspending and being high on life. I've buried my head and avoided looking at my bank for the last three weeks. But tonight I've bit the bullet and shuffled a few £££. It wasn't as bad as I thought, but still not great :wall:

No OP's yet this year. I've got to wait for my expenses to paid in from work. Fingers crossed that will be on the 9th/16th. I'll update when!

This year I'm DETERMINED to make some life changes. I have three goals, and I'm making moderate progress towards them:
    1. Get on top of my finances and be MSE - Save, OP and pay off debts.
    2. Get fit and healthy - I've got an Insanity workout dvd that I've never used.
    3. Get on top of my life - No letting things slip and keep my to-do list low.
So far things are going well! My sound track for these resolutions is 'What are you waiting for?' by Nickleback. Amazing song!

Anyway, not much of a financial update, but thought I should pop in and let you guys know I'm still sticking to the plan

    Thanks for reading

If you cancel your pet insurance, how about putting the money for it into big bills account, rather than perhaps OPing it? That way you could build up a 'pet fund', just in case.

    Hi greent :D

Great idea! They're being slow in paying out for a claim at the moment. I will cancel and redirect my payments as soon as they do! Thanks for the tip.
Get a water meter, it should save you money.

    Hi andrewmp:hello:

Thank you for the tip! I switched to a water meter a few months back and I'm now saving a bomb! I've also just started using my log fire in the hope of saving £££. However, I need to get a stone/slate hearth before I can use it properly :doh:That's another £200 plus delivery/installation GRR.

  • Day 206 of following my dreams:

I'm sheepishly updating this diary :o It's been about 200 days since I last did...

    I have an update:
As of yesterday I'm official debt free!
I started paying roughly £6,000 in loans, CC's, overdraft on 4.12.14. I'm finally all paid off :j

    OPs:
I haven't been particularly MSE. I haven't made a single OP on my mortgage this year

I'm due to remortgage at the end of November, and now I've realised how stupid I was to pick a 2yr fixed rate instead of a 5yr :wall:

In order to reach a 75% LTV and get a decent deal, I'd have to OP over £4,000 by Nov 30th... Completely unrealistic, if I'm honest. But hey ho, nothing like scrimping and saving 5 months to reach a seemingly unachievable goal!:rotfl:

Updates since last time I posted:

    - I have finished the Diploma L3 and received a small £500p.a. pay rise.
    - My team are also waiting for a further pay rise (£2,000p.a. roughly). Whether we will receive it is another matter, but we'll find out before the end of July. Fingers crossed!
    - I've started a post graduate diploma in psychology. I'm half way through and loving every minute. I've paid for that already, and I'm busy planning my future career as a clinical neuropsychologist :rotfl:. Nothing like a far reaching career goal to accompany my crazy OP goal for this year haha. The way I see it, the time will pass anyway. I either spend it studying and achieving my dream career, or I can give up now and most likely be in exactly the same position in 7 years that I'm in now.

Anyway, that's enough waffling for now.

I'm not going to update this diary that much, just with the OP updates and any other changes/updates to my dream goal.

Hope you're all well, and thank you for reading.

  • OP UPDATE:
    £500 transferred after pay day!
    Total '15 OP: £500/£4,000 (12.5%)

Trying to figure out the best time to OP during the month is frying my brain

  • p.s. Does anyone know how to change the name of your diary? There's no way I'll be MF by 30 now :rotfl:
