Just book the final leg to DUB from LHR, and not LGW. So you get your luggage.

Right,I must be thick....How are you booking this flight ?

I assume you are not looking at flights through skyscanner or combined flights and hotel sites like Expedia.

Those are the kind of sites that I use for our bookings, they only give you the option to enter a start point, returning to the same place
i.e dub-las-dub via lgw....which sites allow you to enter dub-las-dub
But choose to go via Lhr instead of lgw..sorry if I sound stupid, you'd think after all the trips I've had I would know this :( but as I say, never done it this way,and book through airlines own website for flights,or Expedia when flight and hotel works out cheaper.

I am like ferf think it could be to much hassle for the saving made, but if we could "get off" in London, and get a train back up north,I might be tempted.

Sorry for sounding thick...I've always thought I was travel savvy after 17-18 trips to Vegas and Orlando...guess I'm not.:rotfl:

You have to choose the multi city option to get flight back from LHR and not LGW.

We have booked Upper for easter, we were already in Ireland visiting family so booked Maldron hotel at airport night before for £70 and bonus air miles with Kaligo :
    Mon 21st March
EI230 7am from DUB to LGW
    VS43 11:20 LGW to LAS
Returning Mon 28th March to LGW with a late returning flight to DUB. Not sure whether to just pack cabin bags (allowed two in Upper) or chance arm
and ask for bags to be checked to LGW only.
When we booked it was adding on a lot more to return via LHR so we stuck with late returning DUB which we will miss.

Very happy with price - £1100 each, problem with flying upper is once you've done it it's hard to go back. We normally use miles to upgrade or full redemption but this was a better solution for us this time- we earn miles and costing is reasonable considering the taxes we would have to pay on a redemption or the fare cost of an upgradeable fare class.

Hotels at DUB are easy to get to as there is a bus park out the back of the airport (walkway opposite T1 arrivals), and free shuttle buses to all the major airport hotels (HIX, CP, PI etc). Dont go for the Hilton Dublin Airport....its like in Galway.

When I priced Dub-Lgw-Las for our trip in March it was only £80 cheaper than the Man-Las direct in the sale.

Being based in the north makes a difference because even if we ditch the final Dub leg, we still have to get back up north. Add to that the fact that we are 2.5 hours north of Man anyway, and it hasn't worked out for us yet.

We got our direct flights for £513 pp for the next trip. Cheapest I've seen in a while.

I'll still keep checking it because Tony wants to try a night in Dublin, but our starting location works against us.
  • Anyone happen to know if any of the 3 ATMs in Newark airport are fee free? Have a stopover there on the way to Vegas and would like to withdraw my cash en route to save having to go to casino royale in Vegas

I'm anxious enough when we stay at LGW the night before, twilight check-in and straight to security the next day - even being at the airport the night before, I am still a basket of worry...adding 2 additional flights to the mix (and the additional potential for something to go wrong) is lot for someone like me. I know it sounds completely stupid, but there it is.

I do like the idea of using Virgin twilight check-in before leaving for DUB, though...not sure I had thought of that/remembered it being mentioned. I just know me. Given how anxious I am when we're at LGW overnight, if we were in DUB the night before, I am pretty sure that anxiety would increase dramatically.

I can see how most normal people would be fine with it, though. ;)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Without doing this topic to death and detracting from LAS ideas

AFAIK you cannot book this direct with Virgin, not too sure about BA
Also if you book direct with Virgin they charge an awful CC fee.

So, Book through Expedia (they will charge you £10 fee)

    For Virgin Flights

    Flight only option "Multicity."

    Choices:-

Day 1 Depart DUB Arrive LHR (say 07:00 outbound)

Day 1 Depart LGW Arrive LAS (Virgin leaves at 11:20 sp pick this time)

Day xx Depart LAS arrive LGW (16:35-10:25 +1)

Day xx+1 Depart LHR Arrive DUB (14:00 )

Expedia should then give the details and prices you want.

ITA Matix can be used to get cheapest fares from other starting points or to confirm cheap fare before using Expedia.

I'm still with you on this one ferf, and I'm pretty mañana about most things :D

If I HAD to go to LAS and involving Dublin was going to be something daft like £500pp cheaper, then obviously it would come into consideration.

But by getting flights at the right time, a direct flight is unlikely to come out so considerably more expensive. Twilight check-in and a relaxing evening in the airport bar is the start of the holiday for us, so we get on the plane pretty chilled out and rested, and when we land in LAS, we're as fresh as can be.

The thought of landing in LAS having been travelling for a good few hours the day before, possibly a bit ratty / tired / slightly anxious about LGW-DUB-LGW flights working out, plus the main flight - well, just doesn't sound as relaxing to me. It is a holiday after all.

Working full time and annual leave being limited, I'd rather spend a day in LAS refreshed, than using it to travel around and be more tired when I arrive. In which case, yes £150pp seems like very good value :)

    Still, horses for courses!
