Thank You! I feel so blessed

Yesterday I sat in the school hall with my husband and dozens of other parents to watch our Foundation year children perform their Nativity. Whilst we all sat with tears in our eyes and huge smiles on our faces as they sang about the miracle of the birth of Jesus my eyes were fixed on the little sheep at the front. My daughter. My miracle. Five years ago to the day two tiny cells were taken out of the freezer and gently placed inside me as we watched the flickering light on the ultrasound screen. Her birth was the result of the miracles of science, the skill and care of doctors and nurses and, most importantly, the selfless gift of eggs from our amazing, selfless donor. As my tears clouded my eyes I silently thanked them all for helping us to have our precious little girl, for a birth every bit as wondrous to us as the story she was singing about. I thanked them for the joy they have brought into our lives, for the little sheep at the front who grinned and waved as she sang for her Mummy and Daddy.

I like a heartwarming story every Christmas and this will be this year's!
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

  • I believe there is a desperate shortage of egg donors so maybe this will make people think if perhaps this is something they could do :D

    Lil Elvis, you softy! :D

Kids do make Christmas so perfect don't they? :)

What a sweet story. Thanks for sharing.

And thank goodness for science. IVF has helped so many people who would otherwise have not been able to have a baby.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Bless science I guess. Good point above on egg donors too.

Just great it has given you the chance to experience such a lovely moment. Hope the outfit was suitably cute and embarrassing. Be sure to get the pictures out for her 18th and relive the moment!

  • Lovely story, made me smile so much!

Also, thank you for the positive science/medical words - so many seem ready to tear down the scientific community these days.

Glad your little sheep did you proud!

You have been blessed! I don't think I could have been an egg doner because I would have always wondered what had become of the part of me I'd donated.

Your doner was a truly selfless woman.

Having read this post, I'm doing that thing where you are smiling that much, you are crying (if that makes sense!)
