Without seeing the email it is very hard to advise. Are you able to copy and paste it here, removing the identifying information?

Yes, but "pretty much" can make the difference between whether you have a case or not. What exactly (literally as in what words are appearing in the email) does is say, in their wording?
And how do they sign off the email? Do they say "please make an appointment with your line manager if you wish to accept this position so that a new contract can be drawn-up", or "we look forward to hearing from you as to whether this offer is acceptable", etc.? We really need this in order to give you proper helpful advice.
If you hurt your leg and your doctor said "it's pretty much broken", you'd want him to be a bit more specific, wouldn't you?0 -
People are saying the OP shouldn't have believed what he was told in an email that looked like a reasonable thing to receive from his employer's HR department. In the same circumstances I think I'd have taken them at their word and I bet most other people would too, even some of those above saying they wouldn't.
If your employer has a track record of saying one thing and doing another that would probably give you cause to be more cautious and believe it when it arrives in your paypacket, but if somebody who you think has the authority to tell you about a payrise tells you about it in writing, why wouldn't you believe it?Make £2025 in 2025

I've just had a look at some of the previous posts you've started, fascinating. It must be most unfortunate to be the only one marching in step...0
