Hiya Panda, gorgeous pictures!!!!
Re the breast-feeding, I was the only one in our ante-natal class that was planning to breast feed (12 of us), and in our post natal classes, there were three of us out of 12 that actually were... I was really surprised, I thought it would be much higher....
The more deprived families don't need to worry so much about he cost of the formula because it gets paid for by the government (Fresh Start vouchers - can also be used for fresh fruit/veg and cows milk).... and breastfeeding isn't really very cool is it? I'm sure many of the young girls wouldn't be seen dead breastfeeding! And formula is far more conveinient (sp?) for when they are roaming the streets with their babies at 11 at night (experience from my area)
It really angers me when you see young children having cola out of a bottle..... do these mothers not know that the people of Old Style clean thier loos with that stuff!!!
Choca, you breast feed as long as you want to and is healthy for your baby! As long as you are getting enough nutrients to supplement both of you, I can't see how formula is better for a baby! I stopped at 6 months because I returned to work, and couldn't express enough milk to keep my hungry baby happy, but if I'd have been a SAHM I would have carried on because I really enjoyed our 'close' time togther
The whole issue of breast feeding really annoys me because there is always someone with an opinion about how it should/shouldn't be done... at the end of the day, it is a decision for the mother to make, and no one else should pressure you into deciding something you not happy with!

Floxxie, congratualtions to you too - when was your little one born? I have a feeling I should know but got those sieve-memory-hormones at the moment! Greg's face is starting to look a lot better today, he's much more pink and apart from layers and layers of crusty scabs on his scalp, his face isn't anywhere near as bad as it was a few days ago. His was a little spotty mnilk rash that mutated into the worst acne I've ever seen, and then disappeared leaving a really nasty dry skin rash, so hopefully yours will improve soon too(your baby, not your face I mean!).
Sarah, it gets right on my wick as well when I see a little baby being pushed around in a buggy (or often a Burberry pram) at stupid o'clock, and being the latest toy for the kids hanging around outside the off-licence. Poor little things, I just think of my own kids and how sweet and innocent they are, and it makes me really sad that these kids will never have a proper childhood or any decent chance in life. But then it's cool to have a baby, and it guarantees a house and more benefit money. Who says there's no class divide in this country?!
We've had a big poo nappy already this morning, so the bunged up bit has obviously cleared itself.
I got a big parcel this morning from the Mega Bloks people - I saw a poster in Tesco about a product recall for the Magtastik magnetix toys and rang. There's a website where you select what you'd like as replacement, and it says they'll send packaging for you to return your Magnetix stuff, but they've sent the replacements and not asked for the recalled stuff back! Bargain, as Adam loves the magnet stuff, and as long as he doesn't put it in his mouth there's nothing wrong with it. Even better as I'd originally bought it all in TK Maxx for about a quarter of the retail price! Got 5 different toys in the parcel so that's a bit towards Xmas/birthdays for both boys.0 -
Hi PP,
My litttle one was born on 27th March. He also has baby acne! but at least the tango look has gone now.
I would love to breast feed but I've had a breast reduction and all my milk ducts have been cut so although I get milk coming in, it can't get out. It is a pain to have to sterilise bottles etc. and a burden on the pocket to buy formula milk so I don't know why people would want to do it when they can have free and accessible breastmilk along with all the other benefits of breastfeeding. I am so embarrassed when I am asked if I am bottle or breast feeding by people; I always have to justify why!
Anyway enough waffling....I'm off to apply for some credit cards to stooze - I have figured that I may as well try and offset some of my mortgage debt, if I can't find the time to earn some pennies!

Congratulations Floxxie! Glad to hear that he's doing well. Sorry that you can't breastfeed, you're obviously one of the genuine 'can't do it' lot as opposed to about 90% of the people who just can't be bothred and therefore say that they can't do it! Good luck with the stoozing - can't wait to be able to do that instead of having to use all the good deals to store debt on!
So, I'm really annoyed that I complained about baby not pooing last week - this morning between 5am and 7.30, I changed SIX nappies. So he's definitely flowing freely today!0 -
I have come straight to the end page and thought they way to address a £300k debt was to use breast milk instead of milk from cows.....!!

Well done to all of you who are breastfeeding and/or supporting breastfeeding! And of course, very appropriate on this forum as it can save lots of money as well as having huge health benefits for both Mum and babe! Wish i could remember the exact figure, will post again if find it later.
Nothing to do with the fact that I'm a midwife of course
By the way, any questions re babies or breastfeeding happily answered (if I can, not pretending to know everything).
Just for the record, I had trouble with my  health visitors who told me I was starving my first-born (now a healthy 5ft6 81/2 stone gorgeous young lady!) because she wasn't putting on weight according to their charts!DFW Nerd No955 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Daddyo, my DH has been trying to convince me that expressed breastmilk might be worth selling on some fetish website...I'll NEVER be that skint! And if he suggests it again, he might just end up with it in his tea.
Hi Isabelle! I bet it adds up to thousands of pounds that's spent per baby on formula milk. Ta for the offer of advice, I'll bear that in mind as I can honestly say that although it's something I'll do because of the benefits, I absolutely hate the whole process - I'm not one of those people who can discreetly feed the baby while doing the ironing at the same time, we have a battle just about every time, which is a bit like trying to breastfeed an octopus with its mouth sewn shut. He weighs a ton though, and (this'll make sense to you as a midwife - it certainly doesn't to me!) he's on the 75th centile which apparently means he's not being starved.0 -
Hi pandpaws (great name!)
Sounds like your baby is doing very well! 50th centile on a growth chart is were the largest number of babies sit (ie average weight). Anything above, eg 75th centile, means they're above average weight (well, you need some above and below average to work out he average!!!), and of course below the 50th centile (eg 5th centile, which is where my daughter was), means they are below average. Hope it all makes sense!
Keep up the good work, every week you breastfeed makes a big difference. :rolleyes:DFW Nerd No955 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'

Ah, that makes a bit more sense (I think!). I was looking at the 'how tall will your child be' page in the red book, and it totally baffled me, so maybe it will make slightly more sense now. Give me matched betting to get my head round any day instead!
Speaking of which, it sounds like it's time to feed the octopus!0
