Sd card problem.

morning all
my mobile flashed up a -storage is getting low move items to sd card,
so pressed yes,,
went to find a photo yesterday and card is blank and all photos music etc appears to have vanished,
not on phone or card,,its asking to format the card,
if the sd card was not set properly,,would it not have moved the items somewhere else or said card is not usable rather than deleting everything?

you have probably fallen for the fake sd card thing.


1: how big is your memory card


2: have you a method (card reader etc) of connecting the card to your PC


there is a simple free PC programme for checking cards , but please answer those questions first

why not download the version I suggested ( h2testw )? , will it get your photos back NO , but it will tell you if you have a forged card.


the programme writes to UNUSED space on the card , then tries to read it , it will not write over your photos if they are there.

I was going to say this too.

SO many fake SD cards out there (especially on eBay), they might claim to be 16GB (for example), but could only be 1GB.
So your phone thinks its got 16GB, but when it tries to write to it, the data just disappears.

as per my first posting , it is pointless trying to get photos back off something that isn't there PLEASE run the programme I suggested , IF the card passes ,then more help can be given retrieving the files

Internal or external?

My phone shows 3 memory cards. The system area, Internal SD and External SD.

The phone would have been complaining that the internal SD was getting full, so the only place it could shift the pics would be to the external SD card as the system area will be off limits to the end user in terms of storage for personal data.

The fact the phone wants to format the external card rings the alarm bells.

Does it work with an "unformatted" card how does it know there is UNUSED space?

What we don't know, is what is the phone, what is the O/S on the phone and how can you speculate that the card is fake , how long has shaun had the card/phone?
H2testw should be used before accepting said card, but this card could have benn running for ages without causing problems ... just a suggestion of course

Plus said card could have been used under android pre latest updates
