  • Good evening. Not much moneysaving gone on today, I've been in casualty all day with my mum. She passed out and fell down stairs all the way from top to bottom!

Nothing broken thank goodness but she's black and blue all over. She has a water infection which could have made her faint says the doctor. They sent us home but since we've been home she can't stop going to the loo and since she has Parkinsons she cant get there in time. I don't know if its the shock or what?

Ive got her into bed now, and I'm sat downstairs on my phone - too scared to put the telly on in case i don't hear her move.

I really don't know what to do now. I can't keep missing work, but I have to work to pay my bills and mortgage etc.

I'm sorry to unload it all here, I don't know what to do next. As soon as I pick myself up after one disaster along comes the next one!

Hi penny, think its an age thing we are in the middle caring for those above and those below. Have you been in touch with social services re care package ,hand rails etc don know where u r in the uk as it varies. If mum worse today get gp to home visit .Hope she is ok and work is understanding ,this isone of the reasons i want to get debt free so if mum needs care i can cut hours .have u family that can sit with her while u are at work ?
So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x
  • Thanks elly. Ive had to wash and change her every hour and a half throughout the night. She can hardly walk so Ive had to physically get her to the toilet each time.

We have a lovely chemist two minutes walk away who gave me a pack of adult pullups last night and wouldnt take any money for them. We're down to the last one now so I'm praying we can last till 9 so I can run out and get some more.

I have a brother who lives just over an hour's drive away. He went home last night but will be back around 10.30 I think. I cant leave him to sit with her while I go home to sleep just in case she needs changing.

I'm in Wales by the way.

The thing is its a battle of wills getting her to let me wash her and I cant let her get back into bed without cleaning up!

I really dont know what to do for the best. I spoke to a locum gp last night and she just told me to give her some immodium so I'm reluctant to phone again.

  • I've been following your diary and applauding you from the sidelines. You sound in a right pickle. Have you spoken to your mum's go this morning? You might get a bit more sense. Also try ringing age concern for some advice. They may be able to sort you out with a commode till things get easier. I don't know how dare packages work, but hopefully either the doc or A can advise. Hope you can get something sorted.

Hi headachesrus (that could be my username)! Yes, we're in a right pickle. Running around like a mad thing at the moment. Brother arrived at 10.45 so I dashed home for a shower. Soon as i came back off he goes to Tescos half an hours drive away - men!!

Ive had a Carers leaflet in my bag for months, so I'm going to give them a call this afternoon. I won't do it till bro gets back in case the patient needs the loo!

Havent phoned the gp yet but have told mum if she doesn't make an effort to eat and drink this afternoon, I most definitely will do.

I popped home last night before bro went home and did some laundry for her. Putting them in the dryer just now (thank goodness for my new dryer!) I noticed I've managed to turn her white petticoat dark grey! A very nice grey mind you :o

Have about 10 Eb*y parcels to post. Will run out after bro gets back. I'm hoping recent sales will cover the extra petrol.

Hope everyone else's day is going ok x

  • Good evening. My brother's just gone home and I'm sat here quietly mulling things over in my head. Mum's asleep at the moment but I'll have to wake her at 9pm to take some more pills. I'm surprised we can't hear the poor thing rattling.

She doesn't seem to be going to the loo as often but she still won't eat.

I bit the bullet this afternoon and called Social Services. I spoke to a lovely lady who said someone will call tomorrow to discuss an interim care package. She also mentioned sending her to a nearby rehab unit where she can get respite care and they will hopefully get her back on her feet. This would be for about two weeks but they won't do this until they're sure she's not contagious.

She wasn't too happy but I tried to joke that if we went back to work and left her stuck in bed with no food and no way of getting to the toilet, we'd get in trouble for parental neglect - I think she gets the point now :)

No moneysaving to report as such. BF filled the car for me bless him so that helps a lot. Another couple of sales today so every little helps.

I hope everyone had a good day x

  • Didn't want to read and run..Definitely push for respite, and what about carers to get her up in the morning, and ready for bed at night? We have to have that for MIL, keep pestering the GP. Now is not the time to be strong and manage.
