Hi Caterina, sorry only just spotted it I am so sorry I won't be able to get to your lunch today I have two meetings that I really can't get out of ,one this morning and one at 2.00.
I do hope that those who do arrive have a fabulous time and I am thinking of you all.

I am really rushed off my feet this week and will be meeting myself coming back IYKWIM :) I am in the U3A and we have such a lot to organise for the forthcoming agenda for Christmas and New Year.Halls and entertainment shave to be booked well in advance This morning I am at one meeting where we have to decide how much there is in the budget to pay for entertainment for our Christmas party.a lot of members do volunteer to 'do a turn' so to speak but the rest still expect a semi-professional entertainer of sorts or at least an interesting speaker.

This afternoon I have a local NHS meeting to go to about health care for the elderly in our area. With so many cuts its a case of turn up and make your voice heard or the council will get their scissors out and be snipping away as much as they can.Our pensioner groups have to show their face and make a case for protecting the care that's available at the moment I am lucky that I am still mobile enough to turn up and make my views known along with several other people. Not something I can miss to be honest.
But I do hope you all have a great time ,maybe next time I will be able to get there
    Best wishes JackieO xxx

No worries, it is just a very small thing, I am planning to put a post for one of our old style London meets like old times!

I thought you might not have spotted, sometimes I go weeks without spotting a PM! See you another time xx
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Still plodding along.

Unfortunately this month I have gone over my budget for food/household. So now I will try and save/cut back over the last two remaining months. Am still doing ok with not buying some things.

With all going well the double glazing is going to be fitted this weekend. Am hoping not too much damage will be done to the plaster.

Went and got a bottle of wine in M&S for my Sister's birthday. It is the usual bottle of wine that we get for birthdays/Christmas and usually costs £8. When I went to buy it, it came up as £4. So came home and printed off 2 vouchers that I do surveys and save for shopping for Christmas for presents. Brought 4 more bottles, so saved £16. Am really pleased with that.

I am hoping things with my temp work will pick up as not getting a lot of work at the moment. So am getting stressed about that.

Have done another free on-line course. So have now registered my interest for another free on-line course. Hopefully I will hear soon once they hear when funding is available in my area where I live.

Is there anyway that you can allow yourself some entertainment money each month? Doesn't need to be a lot but it'll mean you'll know you can buy a treat or go out and not beat yourself up about it later.

I think of it a bit like a diet, if I tell myself I can't eat something then that's all I'm going to think about and at some point I will blow the diet big style, the same goes with your treats, if you try to stop it all together you will likely cave and spend more than you intended whether it be on a night out or vinyls

I think you might be right. I'm going to review my entertainment budget and allow myself a little bit for records. The record fair only comes round once every three months, so I'm sure I can handle that. Thanks all for the advice.

Am back from the Beer Festival and i had such a laugh at very little cost! If you work at the festival you get beer tokens and if you do 2 successive sessions you get food vouchers (only rolls; burgers and hot dogs). I was working some days and so did not drink (I never drink and drive!! folk who do make me ) and so could not drink all my tokens. Apart from bus and taxi (shared so only £3) it was 4 days of free fun so very NBI!

Duran - the reason we are all frugal and NBI is to focus our spending or saving where we want to, where we see it as a treat. If movies are that for you then - fine, brilliant! My expenditure is on meals out and beer! Nowt to show for it except a wonderful waistline and a load of friends! But that is my choice! Enjoy  :rotfl:

GQ I love the idea of floating off into the sunset!
Jackie O - coffee and the radio and doing some kinda craft thing is one of my great pleasures too as is time on my own!! A whole day to one's self can be such a luxury! (but I like folks too! :D )
Duran girl - dont worry - we all have our impetuous moments! At least you are aware of your spending and thinking ahead!
Am gonna try to stick to my midnight ish deadline for bed time so nite all!!

Here's something I won't be buying this year: pumpkin. I do love pumpkin in all its nutritious versatility, and don't have the room to grow any, but most years I can drive up one of the lanes near here & pick up a splendid garden-grown one for about £1. However, last year, my friend grew (organically - she's a smallholder) an absolute whopper, which won a prize at 14 stone, and gave most of it to me "because I'd know what to do with it!" So I divvied it up amongst ourselves & the neighbours & we got through it in the end between us.

This year's is even bigger, and she gave us all of it... But I have a little more time on my hands, and am slightly more organised, so it's dealt with already and half of it is residing in my freezer, my dehydrator & various completed dishes for current & future reference. The other half has been divided up between 4 other, smaller households.

Now dealing with crab apples, beetroot, cooking apples & quinces... if my stores were more organised, I'd hardly have to buy anything until next Spring!

Well there's 2 days left until payday and still not been to the supermarket :j

I have healthy gaps appearing in the freezer now as I've nearly used up the HM ready meals. Bread shelf is also looking a bit empty.

So I need to do another round of batch cooking and use some of the mince, fish, ribs etc that are in the freezer and make some bread using up a mix I have in the cupboard, I also have yeast and flour if needs be.

I'm on holiday from work next week so I'm planning a cooking day where I can restock the ready meals.

I'm going to hold off shopping a little bit longer and aim for end of the month if possible. Have gaps in the cupboards and fridge is bare so I've started a shopping list but I really don't have a specific need for anything yet.

Wow pm2326 - still no shopping!! Amazing!! Holes in my freezer are filled with bags of crumpled newspaper to avoid the electricity bills of chilling empty air!

Old Tractor - mmmmm - dog cuddling - one of my favourite hobbies - can only do it when grand puppy visits now :( My dear old girl passed away 6 years ago and my lifestyle was such that it would have been unfair to have a new dog. One of the reasons I want to retire - get another woof! will re home a stray from a charity. :j

Not buying it today fell over as I had to buy a cold box as my fridge freezer has gone bust! the freezer bit is still working but needed somewhere to store the fridge bits. So over all a money saver. will need to buy a new Ffreezer of course but I can get it on my club book on buy now pay in a year with no interest deal so that is good. Think it was on here that we talked about credit. Ridiculously I have £3000 credit with them - when on earth could I pay that back? How ever it comes in handy! :D
