Don't know if it's just Scotland but we got a card for L!dl through post and it gives you £5 off your shopping when you spend more than £25! Until end October. So guess who is now splitting her weekly shop into several(there are 5 of us in this house). The downside was that our l!dl was packed today!Busymumofthreeplusdog......

Nearly fell off the NBI ship today! Popped into CS that I used to run to see my friend who now manages it. Fatal!! there were some really nice thick cotton trousers in beige/cream £3 which were a good make and a nice purple top £2.50 and a set of lovely little glasses (6) £2.50 Soooo tempted!!! but I resisted - I dont need any of them!! If I loose weight I will have a whole new wardrobe anyway :j - and I already have a set of sherry glasses (not posh but OK) and only drink sherry at Christmas!
I must admit the thought of having to tell you all :A kept me aboard ship - just!! :rotfl:
Also managed to come home from L!dil with what was on my list + a punnet of peaches. Does anyone know if I can keep them in the fridge OK to stagger their ripening throughout the week? I love peaches but they all ripen at the same time - then, unless I make a crumble or similar quick they all start to go offI am trying to eat them fresh to save the old calories!!!
Nite all
TBH lyn, Ive never found the fruit in supermarkets to ever ripen, it rots - esp lidlls
Many moons ago, back in the 80s I was a produce manager for one of the big supermarkets and thats when i done myself sick to death of fruit. Peaches, pears, plums, pineapples, strawberries etc etc all came in ripe and ready to eat. The produce department and back door used to smell gorgeous in the summer with all the ripe fruit delivered. We used to gorge ourselves. I remember peaches and pears would cover you in the juice as you were trying to eat one on the QT, face and hands completely covered with drips everywhere. Nowdays everything tastes like marrow - watery slushy texture that tastes of nothing
Back then though the waste was high, it was often spoiling before we could sell it. Thats when they changed and only ordered unripe produce, so it could be sold looking perfect, yet with no flavour and not much chance of it ever ripening0 -
That's why I only but fruit from the market and loose so it is OK to buy one or two.0

Hi all, I try and only buy fruit a few days at a time so it doesn't go to waste. If it does start to go over it gets chopped for the freezer.
It then goes in to crumbles or frozen straight in to smoothies. Frozen lemons/limes/Orange slices go in to drinks, lemonade/water or my favourite g&t. (Which is perfect as you get fruit and ice in one)We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j0 -
Evening folks
Well I finally managed to defrost the freezer today, it's still quite full but it's packs of mince, chicken etc, have eaten all the rubbish bits that were taking up so much room like fish fingers, pasties, etc
I can now start batch cooking proper food and freezing again, so i started a list of things to make before I go back to work on 1 Sept and it's currently looking like this
[STRIKE]Sausage & lentil simmer [/STRIKE]
Liver & bacon
Chicken & dumplings
Meatloaf
[STRIKE]Chilli[/STRIKE]
Spag Bol
Meatballs
Falafels
Curry
Lentil burgers
Lasagne
Lentil & bacon soup
This should keep me, my slowcooker and oven busy for a bit!!
Planned a day indoors today as weather forecast said heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon ...... but they never appeared  I could have gone out for the day on my bike which I've had over a week and not had chance to use yet!
On the plus side I did manage to cook up 2 of the meals on my list :T was nice to have a decent HM meal for tea rather the processed stuff I've been using up
Downside is I'll need to replace the tinned tomatoes etc that I've used so I can make some more stuff on the list :rotfl:0 -
I'm restocking my freezer too pm. But I'm not planning time for it (so spent all day in the garden). I'm just making sure that my meal plan includes one meal each day where I bulk cook. I just need to clean the bottom of the chest freezer and work out how I'm going to store stuff in there so I can turn it on...
I made tomato soup yesterday - two portions in freezer.
Today I made aubergine curry. Looks like there will be 3 portions for the freezer.
Tomorrow I'm planning on making chickpea, potato and cabbage curry.
Even with stir-fries I make double and freeze. Same with risotto.0 -
I need to empty my freezer! I am hoping to shop from fridge and freezer, especially from 1st September after mum leaves, so DH and I can get creative with dinners! On 11th we are leaving and will be back on 27th so I would love to defrost and leave switched off, both fridge and freezer, to save energy. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

ahoy all :-)
been busy today - NBI electricity! Yep, honestly! It was beautiful weather here today so i did 3 lots of washing - but no using of a tumble dryer and/or drying near radiators!
I often cook double - earlier this week I put two portions of bacon and tomato sauce over pasta in the freezer and tonight I have put 4 burgers and two portions of 'Sunshine Rice' in the freezer to form meals. I know September is gonna be mega busy so these will help out!
So frugally sailing onward! nite folksAim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

I agree, cooking extra is how I normally end up stocking the freezer, seeing as there's only me and I like stews, soups etc there's always going to be leftovers for the freezer.
But I don't cook as a general rule during the week, I eat up the HM 'ready meals' from the freezer. Once I've prepared some meals this week, I'll go back to just cooking new stuff on the weekends.0 -
I cook in bulk when I have time to cook... and eat stuff from the freezer when I don't. I've found that being too rigid isn't helpful - sometimes the days I plan to cook find me working till 2am with barely time to grab a drink, other days I'd planned on eating from the freezer I end up with time.
However, at the moment I know I'm not going to be travelling for a couple of months (well, I have a few days in London, but that doesn't really count), so need to stock up for when things get busy again. ALthough most of the year I'm only home about 40% of the time (so need less food), I do need to make sure I have food easily available when I am home, jet lagged and have no time to shop! Otherwise I live on pizza, toast and icecream...0
