Hi fellow matelots, had a brilliant evening with my eldest DGS Danny. He arrived bearing all the ingrediants, and made delish chicken fajitas.and home made guacomole and salsa sauce. For a guy who thought, in his teens that a Maccyds double deck cheese burger was the bees knees he's come on a lot.:)
Bless him he's a real foodie now, and a great cook.I just hovered around saying 'yes chef' every now and then:):):)
We ate and sat and nattered about politics, his job, his gorgeous girlfriend his forthcoming holiday next week to one of the Greek islands and life in general Great to have an evening with such a happy and relaxed young man
Bless him he had to be up for work at 6 as he works in London in the city but he never left my house until almost midnight.
I now have some left over bits in the fridge to use up.
Half a bowl of guacomole (which was very tasty) some salsa, half a pot of soured cream, half a left over avocado and a couple of tortilla's.so as I have some halloumi chees in the fridge I with concoct something out of it all for dinner tonight, oh and a yellow pepper that he didn't use up.Great cook but tends to over buy at times, not good at estimating portions:):) any ideas chums
RFL fund is almost up to £400:):) hope its not as hot as today is forecast to be.a cool breeze on Sunday will keep all of us ladies happy I think. Thank you to all who have donated I shall be thinking of you all this coming Sunday and the fantastic support I have had
History this afternoon, and I think its a politician today 'The life and times of Tony Benn' Nothing is going out of my purse though as my History money is seperate from my food money.its in the entertainment jar along with the quiz night cash:) I may make some celery soup today as I have some in the fridge that needs using up. Slowly working my way through the food mountain:)
Right time for a quick cuppa I think,
have a great day everyone what ever you are doing

Ahoy all
Isnt it weird??? Now that I am determined to de clutter my food cupboards by eating up what is in there and thinking 'Hummm what can I make out of what I have???' instead of thinking 'Oh I must rush out and get XYZ ingredient for this recipe' I seem to have TONS of food in!!! I just need stuff to make meals of it - eg yogurt or onions or garlic or eggs!! It seems never ending!
Also never ending is the amount of carp that I have squirreled away over the years!! I think - OK that's that cupboard turned out - but when I revisit it for a reason I then think - you know what there's more in here which I never use and can get rid of!!
Anyone else got the bottomless pit stuff in their houses???
Sailing on - gonna be busy getting on with it tomorrow - I ve had a relax today!;)Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j

I used up one of the tortillas that DGS Danny left at my house last night.I had it with the HM guacomole and soured cream I added a sliced tomato, some cucumber, and grated some cheese and it was very filling.
I have one more tortilla to eat for tomorrows lunch,I may dig a chicken thigh out of the freezer I know there is at least a few in there seperately frozen.I f I remember they were coated with herbs and chilli spice so one in the wrap should make a tasty lunch for me.
I too have too much food in stock so NSD's for me just yet.
I've just remembered I have a whole pineapple in the conservatory so I will slice that up tomorrow and put in the fridge for nibbling if I feel like snacking while watching the tennis in the afternoon.
Like lyneP I want to use stuff up before my holidays:)

I have been amused and comforted by the various reports on here of overloaded freezers and food cupboards because we suffer a similar problem. We have recently defrosted a big freezer in the garage and now made an inventory of we have got in there. Much of it is home grown vegs and soft fruit from last year still unconsumed which is embarrassing because this years crop is now starting to come on board. Either we are not eating enough of it or I am growing too much of it. We did start making a menu plan to use it up but our schedules can be unpredictable and eating habits don't always coincide. And in this hot weather we don't always want cooked meals and are happy with salads.
One of my best bargains in this respect has been the planting out of those £1 punnets of living salad leaves which are supposed to be destined for snipping off the odd leaf from your window sill. I have a large patch of very healthy mixed lettuces in the garden from these from which I can oick handfuls of salads whenever I want them. I have just planted out another batch which should keep us going all summer.0 -
Oh what a chord those words struck PRIMROSE, we have two freezers, a large one in the kitchen and a smaller one in the garage, found on freecycle a few years ago to take the bits in the bigger one while we defrosted it. Needless to say we duly defrosted the big one and refilled it with homegrown .......and also the smaller one!!! I often hear those words 'There's still 'xyz' left from last year and we've harvested this years now!' We've actually reduced the amount that we do grow as there are just the two of us now but harvests are unpredictable and often give much more than I can either use or give away and then I just HAVE to freeze it or it would be wasteful wouldn't it?0

Know the feeling with home grown still in the freezer, and that's after jam and wine have done, still this year I might have some extra people to give glut's to due to a group I'v joined, all ready given some away when we had a party.
Spending is staying within what I'v planed for and saving are being made by eating garden produce.£71.93/ £180.000 -
I get a sense of achievement every time I take something out the freezer and make even the most minuscule amount of space :rotfl:
Tea last night was from freezer, a salmon steak and a bag of steam veg. Also managed to condense 2 Tupperware tubs of HM breakfast bars into one. Lunch today is cheese on toast (bread from freezer) and tea will be something with chips, again from freezer ...sounds good but all in all I will have made no impact on the space :rotfl:
I had to wait for a delivery this morning and expected it to be late, but it turned up before 9! So I've done 2 loads of washing, they're on the line but we keep getting black clouds overhead
Have used up all my fresh food so I've also emptied the fridge, washed all the shelves and put all opened jars back in. It has a bit of a smell which I think is off some spring onions that I had in there, have put a bit of bicarbonate in a dish on the shelf so hoping it'll sort it out.
Did most of housework last night and cleaned bathroom this morning so no more chores left for me :T:T
Once my washing is dry I'll pop to the shop for fruit & veg then it's back home for the weekend x0 -
Hello shipmates
Have a crumble in the oven with apples and a peach. A neigbours brother had so many apples that after giving a lot away to family, friends and neigbours he still had loads so he told his brother to pack them up and try to get rid of them somehow, so two big boxes appeared in front of our garages earlier this week. There is still half a box, so I might get some more and cook apple sauce for freezing. They're old fashioned, a bit sour and quite small apples but oh so lovely!
Did a small groceries round, but only need fruit, veg and a bit of dairy at the moment. Laundry is hanging on the balcony for drying and if I can pull myself together I'll pass the hover...
Once this is all done I'll take the apple crumble and my knitting over to my parents for a bit of quality time with my mum. This became a Saturday ritual for the past year or so, while my father and sister work on turning a white van into a camper my mum and I knit and then we have coffee and something sweet when the two of them come back from their work.
I found three skirts in my wardrobe when tidying out - no idea why I stuffed them in a bag at the bottom of the wardrobe.... So washed them and will try them on later, if they fit this is another addition to my wardrobe, if not they come into the box of things that I will be able to wear again when I lost some weight. If they fit now it means a small expense on a t-shirt or two though to have something to go with them.
So, kitchen timer calls for me, need to take the crumble out!

Ahoy all
So lots of us are sailing on with more in the hold than we need!! Phew ! I thort it was just me! Cheers Shipmates for making me feel less guilty!
Am now having to fill my freezer with bags full of scrumpled newspaper to save electric! So the stocks must be going down......?
Not much of a freezer or cupboard clearing food day today but did an 'Oh My God' stir fry for tea - in other words open the fridge and look at what needs using up and stir fry it in order of hardness - so (in order) onions; carrots; fennel; cabbage to flavour - garlic; 1/2 teaspoon 5 spice; desertspn soy; desertspn MiKewi Lu (Chinese liquor) or rice wine or mirrin; teaspoon sesame oil. So no waste and an NSD day for me.
Ive been busy with an hours walk; an hours gardening; an hour sorting out e-mail; and hour sewing; half hour cooking (lunch and dinner) and other bits - am pleased with myself - got on with it today!
May we all have fruggle and busy days to morrow! :AAim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
