    Hi all,

Another almost NSD for me, only 80p because I was out with my mum and she needed it to avoid breaking a £20 note, Im sure that won't dent the savings too much!

I did spend £14 yesterday on Liz Earle toiletries, they are my luxury and I really don't want to give them up. And it was a saving of about £14 too because of the deal I got.

OH is having a Chinese takeaway for dinner tonight, and normally I would be very tempted, but I have just had something from the freezer instead. We are going out tonight to a beatles tribute concert with some friends and family, bought the tickets weeks ago so it feels almost free :) i don't mind spending money on things like that though, because it's not going to clutter up the house and I will have an enjoyable evening with good company, and it was only £14.

No plans for the weekend as yet, might need to spend some money on a replacement motor for our shower which has went on the blink, but OH is handy with these things, so if he is able to fix the motor, all the better.

    Hope everyone is well xxx

:( I read that Myleene story and thought how crass and rude and greedy the other Mums' touting for cash was, but equally, I thought M humilitating them in the global media was unnecessary, extremely rude and cocky. As if she is such a celeb that the normal rules of politeness needn't apply to her. Klass was showing no class, if you'll excuse the pun.

It's M's offspring I feel sorry for, as the child will probably experience some negative fallout from her celebri-mum's conduct. Surely an adult affronted by cash solicitations can have a quiet word with another adult, explain why they think this is unacceptable?

Re laundry habits, I'm a singleton and run 1-2 washloads a week, am running Feb's first washload as we speak. Apart from unmentionables, I certainly wouldn't automatically launder a garment after one wearing. I exercise commonsense, laundering more frequently in summer, but I dress for work 5 mins before leaving the flat, change as soon as I get home, and garment are hung to air and expected to do at least two outings, possibly more depending on type and time of year.

Been playing on the allotment, visiting a pal, to the library and have dropped my hands on what appears to be a £40 book for £2 (kid bruv is an online bookseller so I am his purchasing-agent-at-large). My personal best buy was a £5 book which went for £380 so not going to top that, but I live in hope. We spilt the proceeds from that one 50/50 and my share went towards my allotment shed.

:D You didn't know books could turn into sheds, did you? Our Dad has long since ceased to be surprised at the propensity his offspring have for turning a penny into a pound; apparently our paternal great-grandad was cut from the same stripe and loved buying and selling.

    Hi Busymumofthree

I have made homemade washing detergent which turned out very well. I used to make it in bulk as it was easier and stored it in 2 litre milk cartons ready for use!! Also used to make fabric conditioner, which is so easy to make also!!! I have not made any for a while because my hens started to take over my time plus the veg growing. My health is not good at all so I do have limited energy to get all the things done that I want to do!! But I shall get back in to making it again!!

I am more than happy to post both recipes on here if anyone would like to have a go at making their own. Also I have a fab recipe for Elderflower cordial if anyone would like me to post that on here. It is so much better for you than shop bought rubbish and soooo much cheaper. I freeze mine when I have made a batch in small bottles that you can buy water in!! I then get out a bottle at a time and defrost it in the fridge and use it over the week in the hot summer months!! If you have Elderflower trees near to where you live it is well worth making!!

Let me know if any of you would like the recipes!!! Back to reading the rest of the thread now!!

Agree. I did think about it for a while and ponder whether it was actually a good idea for the fact it gets rid of unnecessary landfill which let's face it a lot of kids tat is. And it is an efficient way of conserving funds too I suppose. But it concerns me that it teaches children to expect gifts from others outside the family.

Also expecting £10 For every kid in the class' bday, would mean parents like my DD, having to spend at least £300 a year, as DGD gets invited to every chuffin party:eek:
Just hope there's no repercussions for Myleen's DD:(

:) I think it's damaging to raise the expectation that just because a certain date on a calendar is significant to you, that those in your immediate orbit are obligated to delve into their pockets to fund your consumerism.

To me, a gift should be something given because you want to, not because it is duty-driven. As a child, I was raised that if someone gives you a gift, no matter what it is, or how welcome/ unwelcome it may be, you recieve it with every expression of delight and never let on that it might not be your heart's desire. And the flipside being that you do not ask where your present is, or attempt to quality-control the gift in advance, because no one is obliged to buy you presents at all.

In our office, we don't take up collections for each other's birthdays, but we do have whip-rounds for babies, get-wells and good luck in your new job. Usually flowers and a card. The birthday person provides cakes to the team, and as it's a large team, there are plenty of cake-eating opportunities for us all to enjoy in the year.:p

  • I really couldnt care less about Myleene Klass. Shes seemingly posted those emails when they were sent a year ago. I agree very much that there shouldnt be an obligation for parents to put their hands in their pockets to fund large presents. I remember having birthday parties as a kid, a bit of cake and some jelly and being with mates was enough for me.

But Myleene to me falls into the same bracket as Hopkins, Cheryl whats your name this week, Kimberley Walsh, Katie Price, most of what they have to say doesn't register on my radar and lets face it, Myleene is worth a good few million quid herself, Id rather take advice on being frugal from someone who really has to be frugal, not someone who has to keep herself in the limelight no matter.

I caught To The Manor Born earlier which took me back to a simpler time. It was filmed in the late 1970s at Cricket St Thomas in Somerset which is where I am originally from, although my family moved away 35 years ago. I worked at the wild life park whilst they were filming the series and I have to say the cast were all truly friendly and genuine.

But it showed the local countryside and shops which really did take me back. It all seems so innocent then and so much simpler. I lived down a country lane with grass down the middle of it which I hated with a passion and left at 18. Now I can think of nothing that would give me greater pleasure! How times change.

I use to live out in the sticks up until the age of 18 as well. I could not settle once I hit the teen years and wish I'd had appreciated it back then instead of thinking it was so boring. I like to watch the early episodes of Last of the Summer Wine, filmed in Holmfirth, which is not too far away from us and is a dreamy place to visit for the day.
