Oh Bathory I did laugh at what your Mum did with the iron:) He deserved it I feel
Well I have spent some money today online for two sewing patterns and thread for my daughter and I. I want to make myself some summer skirts so will enjoy trying to do this. I have only ever made a skirt with the help of a lovely tutor many years ago and still have the skirt but had lost part of the pattern and saw the same one online so happy days
My dh is paid tomorrow monthly so will be sorting out the money later tonight with a cup of tea
The snow is falling heavily now. I wore my wellingtons this morning to walk round to the Mums and toddlers where I help out 3 hours each week in my church. There were only 6 Mums and 7 little ones today with the snow, but we all managed fine. My dh has a very long drive tonight to his place of work and we don't know if he is going to be able to get there or not. The snow is coming down very thick and fast now. I think it will be soup tonight
wrap up warmly all and keep safe x Margaret

Aahhh, the 1970s, I remember them well. Frequently wish I could forget them, but hey-ho, it's social history. And if it wasn't brown it was bliddy orange, I take violent exception to the colour orange even to this day.
Came out of work into a snow shower, returned a library book and scuttled into the supermarket for some biscuits, cheapo pkt, just a little treat. Haven't bought anything else, although snow seems to trigger an atavistic desire to stock up, I already have plenty by me.
No purchases planned beyond getting a replacement for a broken wristwatch. Got a tip about an independant trader from my Magic Greengrocer, not sure if they will have something cheap and plain enough for my tastes, but I will check them out tomorrow or Saturday, it's close by.
I have very affable relationships with several independant traders on nearby streets, as well as with the chazzer people, I really like the sense of locality and dealing with the business' owner.
Was asking my greengrocer how biz was yesterday and it's a bit lean, lots of people scraping up the bottom of the purse, said he'd never had some many 5p coins through the till.
Never mind, all is well here and, should I wake up to several feet of snow tomorrow (improbable) I can hunker down indoors.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Now i'm retired snow has a rather different aspect for me as if we wake to a heavy snowfall it,s rare that one has to venture out for a call of duty like like work and one can bunker down, if well stocked up and amuse oneself indoors.
I recall the sleepless nights I had when working worrying about snowfalls and whether i'd be able to drive to work or get stranded on a motorway somewhere and feel sorry for those still on the hamster wheel.0 -
Spent £2.29 today. Two tins of tuna for the cats, some cat litter and a bottle of water. Im going to make an extra payment to credit card debt every month with the money Im not spending, made an extra £20 payment yesterday, will aim to make £50 extra every month. I do have a debt free date and its not years away but this means I can get everything paid off sooner.
Im going to aim for going to a supermarket once a week, theres one near me that does reductions around 7pm daily and Im in that area once a week at that time, plus the occasional aldi fruit and veg top up and continue to buy from the fruit stall as well.0 -
I remember the 70's as well. For wedding presents I got orange flanelette sheets, orange nylon sheets, brown nylon sheets and brown and orange nylon sheets and a beautiful cotton duvet cover in orange and brown. We had to use them as couldn't afford to replace them. Also got loads of stainless steel serving dishes - these lasted for years till I gave them away. I still smile when I see stainless steel dishes and chance? glass in the chazzer. Those were the days.:D0

Aril, thank you so much for posting about Animed. One of my cats is on steroids and even with the cost of the vet's prescription it is still going to save me tons xxxFlowers are sunshine for the soul0

Ok so it was payday for me today. Determined to do this, fresh start today! Did the weekly shop using a calculator today to keep a tally as I went round, it made me much more mindful about what I was putting in the trolley. With my £5 off Aldi voucher I did the weekly shop for £38. Hopefully I'll only need to top up fruit and milk before next Thursday0

Hi everyone, enjoying reading your posts and progress as always.
Just in case anyone hasn't seem it, the 15-Day Big Winter Switch Event II is happening through MSE's cheap energy club at the moment for gas and electricity: https://cheapenergyclub.moneysavingexpert.com/collectiveswitch The big switch choice (Sainsburys) is cheaper per unit and for the standing charge for both gas and electricity for me compared to my current fix, and you get £30 cashback on top of the savings.
I have a £10 exit fee from the current fix with Eon, but regulator rules mean they can't charge it within the last 49 days of the fix, my deal ends on 30 March, and the big switch lasts until 12 Feb, so if I wait until after the 10th Feb to switch, I'll not have to pay the charge (and delaying the switch by two weeks will 'cost' me less than £10 in savings so it makes sense to wait)
Hope this is helpful to some - especially if you have a penalty for leaving your fix and didn't know the 49 day rule - might save quite a bit if your exit fee is high!
Happy sailing everyone

Hi everyone. I had a little spendy day today. £8.81
These things weren't on any of my NEEDS list but 3 were household things greatly reduced by over 80% each. And although not needed ATM they will be needed during the year. The other thing was a little treat for me in the form of a French manicure kit reduced by over 60%. So I'm happy with those purchases and £8 hasn't broke the bank as I would've had to buy these during the year. I'm going to try and grow my nails and do my own manicures but ATM my nails don't grow much in winter.0 -
Evening shipmates
Just quickly saying hello before crawling into my hammock as early morning tomorrow. Need to be at work at 6.30... Which isn't really my prefered time...
Will do all the catching up during the weekend and search for Jackies storie about the sixties.
I'm really happy how January went so far. Will come about 10% under my groceries budget and that sum includes almost all groceries for next week as well. It would be about 20% under budget if I would put everything I got for next week into Februarys budget.
Didn't bought any clothes and only some foundation as I had a voucher.
Other spendings include a concert ticket, cinema ticket, a book and a DVD. oh and a frivoulous spending on some tulips. Didn't made much sense as they stand in my kitchen and I don't see them much...
But it was my present to myself for finding a new, much better paid job.
Will visit a friend tomorrow evening and first thought about getting her flowers but the problem is that there is no decent florist on the way to her place (There are three florists in her town, all overpriced and selling strange stuff... I wanted to buy her flowers a while ago but ended up going into the supermarket and getting her an orchid as I couldn't find anything nice) So I decided to go back to candle making and made her a scented candle instead. She always has a candle burning somewhere, so at least I know that this is something she will like. Just need to remember to pack it tomorrow morning...
So, off to bed.... Feel tired when I think about going up tomorrow...Fashion on the Ration 2022: 5/66 coupons used: yarn for summer top 5 /
