Aril, thank you so much for posting about Animed. One of my cats is on steroids and even with the cost of the vet's prescription it is still going to save me tons xxx

My dog is on regular prescription meds and I usually find that no one company has the best price each time I order . I have used animed in the past but this month petdrugsOnline was the cheapest . Sometimes it can be between £30-50 difference in price to the company I used the previous month. I think it depends on how good a price they can buy them in for.

I love this thread! I know I keep saying it but I do!!..such like minded supportive folks.

We have £128 left in our bank account this month. what's amazing is we have had to help our son out with at least £200 of car repairs plus lots of added extra's to get it back on the road without going through the insurance company (£800 excess due to his age!). I believe had it not been for that we would have saved between £400-500.
But what's been good its been fun, we've been on lots of winter walks and enjoyed doing simple things. When we did go out for our sons birthday we didn't begrudge the cost because we knew it was a special day and worth it.

I nearly caved, I am so tired and achey, just have no energy. I texted my husband and told him to persuade me a takeaway is not a good idea, he did and said if I cooked tea as per meal plan he would go and buy me chocolate on way home from work. So healthy tea is cooking and I should only be £1 down for comfort food!

It's definitely harder when I'm tired, that is when I can justify any type of convienience, I think I will get a few treat type meals in the freezer alongside my homemade ones, to save me from reaching for the takeaway - we've not had one this year and used to have one at least weekly!

Not buying it in January has enabled me to increase our emergency savings by around £200, we have also been able to order a wonderful wooden double swing set with a bit you climb up, a big slide and a set of monkey bars, only through our savings have we been able to afford it. With a baby on the way we are not having a holiday this year so I am so looking forward to lots of fun in the garden.

    Thank you everyone!

ETA - just eaten chicken and courgette noodles using a courgette that was in a very sorry state and noodles I bought from approved food in October and was stumped how to use them. It was delicious and worth the effort!
2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(

Hectic week here and will read back later, but thank you for your inspiration in the month of January, although I was £23 over my grocery budget and £2 over my incidentals budget in all the overall saving for the month was around £400 - which is winging it's way to the mortgage. This month might see a slightly higher spend as the store cupboards have been used a fair bit, but at this point in time I cannot see anything I am needing to buy, so targets for feb will be adjusted slightly to take that into account. Off to Perth today which will be a test, but will try my hardest to resist! Have a great weekend folks!

:T Wow, suzybloo, a £400 mortgage overpayment, that's something to celebrate (in a spendless way, naturally). And, if you think about it, the interest you won't be paying on that proportion of your mortgage means that you are actually saving a lot more than £400. Very well done!

Can't think of anything I need to buy today and don't have any plans for going shopping, although it's a Saturday and that's what people do, isn't it?

I'm easing into the day then will walk up to my allotment, checking on the progress of the tree buds, the catkins, the first sproutings of the perennial and annual wild plants. I may see the jays, the robin, the kingfisher or even Mr Fox, if I'm lucky. Then I shall wheelbarrow manure from the ponies on the common up to the allotment. Probably not more than 3 loads, all I will have strength for, but that's three loads of goodness for the soil.

And then home again, with bits and pieces of Stuff to do (chores) and fun stuff like reading, knitting, interwebulation, chatting to the fam on the phone.

Once I'm sure that there will be no more spends, I shall do January's accounts, see what went where.

  • Oh Cricky..... Here goes...After lurking on the forums for about 4 years this thread has inspired me to join and post. Can I please jump on deck for a while.

Quick background. There is me, hubby and teenage son, this website has seen us through redundancy's and a few hard times. We are lucky to now have no debt, but are working hard to pay off the mortgage. Hence we needed an extra effort to save money since January and that is where this thread has helped.

Since the second week of Jan we are decluttering and selling on ebay, made £41 on Music Magpie, changed energy supplier (£200 year saved) changing bank account to Santander 123) for the interest)and most importantly NOT BUYING IT!!

I can not believe how much we have trimmed down our monthly shopping and spends with help from this thread. Monthly budget for food/cleaning stuff/toiletries is £300, spends came to £225 in January!

We have bought no clothing, we are making do and mending, and using up store cupboard and toiletries.

I am hoping that joining you on the wonderful ship will keep us inspired and build on the progress made so far.

Ok off back down below. Will nip back soon with anymore updates.

    :-)
We WILL stick to a budget for all of 2015 without loosing momentum. :j

:T Blimming heck, Happy Home, that's an awesome amount of money saving to accomplish in just one month, I hope you are justifiably proud of yourself!

Welcome to the madhouse. Room for plenty more, too.
