To people with *good* stuff that you're keeping for special occasions - when I was 8, got a new 'party' outfit that I was keeping for parties, I grew out of it before my next party. I swore then that clothes should be worn. Don't get me wrong, I do still have the odd dress that just isn't suitable for everyday wear - but I don't believe in not wearing it. It's far more empowering to not feel afraid. I broke one of my granny's old cups from a tea set that I have - I didn't get upset, but smiled because at least it was being used.
Thanks Frugalworker and all others posting for all your encouraging words. I read this thread every day but don't always have anything to post but I find this ship is helping me focus on what is important. I have ordered the Konmarie book with Xmas gift money and hope to translate her ideas into practise in my life in a couple of weeks time when I have 8 days holiday from work...it is going to be MY TIME to get my life straightened. Like many women, I spend all my energy and time looking after/ doing things for everyone else in my life...so that week off is for me. Thank you everyone for all your ideas and practical advice, for keeping me on the straight and narrow.0 -
I am having a massive declutter and am giving away, chucking stuff that I paid hard earned cash for.
Books no more. I have a load to read and then the library unless its hard to get hold of book. But I hate not to see books in a house. I know I am very strange LOL!!
The same with DVDS have a netflix sub.
I am now going to stop buying stuff just because I might need it. It has to be used or I am not getting it.
When I lived in a one bed flat. It was a case of one thing and one thing out.
4 books I ordered arrived yesterday £27.99I know but very specialised subject and they retail for £35 each. Plus I got free shipping and 30% off. 2 for me and another 2 as pressies. And was given a magazine that was cost £3.99!!!!! I will pass that on as I know someone who would like it as it specialist magazine.
And seeing as I am now about to go in my 4th week with no work from the agency need to stop spending :rotfl:

We've had a tough week and I will admit, the grocery shopping crept a bit. However, we should be getting back on track this weekend and Monday is pay-day, so a fresh month.0

For those with gift cards and vouchers still not spent from past times, do check there is no " use by" conditions on them. I vaguely remember reading something about them a while back
Oh and I keep nothing for best any more. I deserve best everyday. So everything is worn or used as and when. Apart from the tea service which I only keep because some members of the extended family like tea from a pot and cups and saucers0 -
Hmm.... Row with DH..
Started clearing the kitchen, we,re getting a new one fitted so its the ideal time to be ruthless....
Last year DH was given a second hand enourmous pasta pot, we,ve never used it and I said we should get rid of it as its way too big and takes up space for no reason - que rant...... Its the only thing he,s asked to keep etc, it,s his, he was given it... Bloody childish was waiting for him to lay on the floor and kick his feet... Phahhhh.....
So much for the peace and harmony of decluttering - i,ll put the bloomin thing in his wardrobe....

Just popping my head up!
I have now ruthlessly decluttered the bookcase and have made £25 on Am@zon trade-ins yay.
OH stopped me buying two chairs for the kitchen-they were in the sale and I was trying to convince her we needed them. I will now stop looking at that website because I'm getting spendy ideas.

Ahoy Shipmates
I'm going to admit my hubby went dumpster divingthe other night as a Victorian school next to us is being gutted.(permission was sought from jannie) So in he comes covered in snow with a science room old high stool, we reckon made from oak. It has patina, softness and age and is rather lovely with a leaf cut out on top for a hand slot.
Next up is a 50's / 60's wee Swedish-style retro chair. Wooden curvy back, metal legs, arms etc and a scabby old seat. It's lovely and I've eyed it up for my workroom already. We're going to put castors on the legs and I've already sorted the seat and recovered it in a scrap of Amy Buttler fabric I had in my stash. It looks fab :T Hubby is working on cleaning up with woods, sanding, oiling n' whatnot. He's good at bringing wood back to condition. So I'm delighted!
The castors should cost £5. Great price for a unique chair.
Oddly, we've not had much to declutter as we've moved twice already and down-sizing / minimizing has been our thing. But those chairs will come in handy!
Apart from that I've had the sewing machine out doing a few repairs and doing some crafty bits for storage, gifts etc. I may make a few more cloth sanitary towels as they're great, comfy and recyclable.
Got to get a move on with some batch cooking and freezing this afternoon. Then I'm looking forward to a hot bath with my own essential oils & porridge in muslin bag water softner and a homemade face pack.
To think I used to socialise and spend spend all day / night Saturday :cool:0 -
A few small spends today but no supermarket shopping, went to B and M and to Holland and Barrett as I had a voucher for a quid that needed used and they have a penny sale on just now so I got 2 items that should have been £3.10 for 56p. Got some fruit at the fruit stall, bought some cherries and then the stall holder offered me 8 fairtrade bananas for a quid so I bought them. Will make some protein pancakes with them later on.
Plus some necessary small spends in superdrug. They have a buy one get one half price on most items just now, so bought some stuff, stuff I need so it will come in useful.
Life is more than a bit stressful just now, can't elaborate, seems like its just same old crap, different day. So many good people I know get nothing but undeserved strife.
I am very happy not to be going into supermarkets right now, just frees up more time and energy on other stuff.
I don't have a problem with spending christmas or any other gifted moneyHaving said that I have 40 quid sitting left over from christmas, just at the moment there's not much I need, so will keep it until I find something I do want to buy.
Tonight Im going to have an early night, been up since half 7 for bootcamp this morning, going to watch a film on my tablet. I have a vodafone tablet that was finally replaced and working, but the only difference between that and the cheap one I bought on ebay is the one I pay for has access to radio and for 15 quid a month, not worth it. Am going to cancel it then see if I can get it unlocked then just shove a PAYG sim in as I only use it in the house anyway and I have wifi so it wont cost me. Contract has finished so I can do that. Have written to vodafone to cancel anything else I have with them. Have had poor service from them and terrible signal so long I'm not giving them any more of my cash.0 -
Also, while I was in the communal bin area of my flats a couple of weeks ago I saw a bag that someone had put in, was full of clothes, all in very good condition, didn't want to just take them, so left it a couple of days and they were still there. Some of the stuff was designer. I just shoved them in a bag and gave them to the local hospice shop.
I know sometimes people do need to de clutter, but there was a few hundred quids worth of stuff sitting there, hopefully someone will get use of them.0
