    Evening:D

I am also way behind with the thread so am thanking where I have got to:o

More bits and bobs achieved today. Another jumper and book added to the jumble pile. One of the things I did last year when passing fiction paper backs on was to write in the front cover "please pass on" so they didn't return to me. Any I want I write my surname and please return instead.

Despite the hideous weather I did drag my sorry rump out on a run in the rain. Still not going as far as I could a few months ago but it's improving. I really wanted an app that tells me how far I've gone but I only have a very elderly mobile which suits me fine [doesn't even have the internet or a camera] as it's only switched on a couple of times a day. Speaking to Mr GBT he reminded us that we have a GPS from our geocaching days so took that and now know exactly how far I got before I had to stop:j

Once I got in from work I made inroads into cleaning the first kitchen cupboard. Have put all the new unopened bottles of alcohol at the back so we finish the older stuff first and doubled up tw bottles of opened chilli sauce and vinegar that were in separate places. Have also busted the card making stash so know what's in there. The old file dividers from the small person have now been added to my scrap paper box that I keep near the pc.

All this talk of SC fudge has made me decide to make some for Valentine's Day. Am wondering if I could use up the box of chocolate orange sticks in it, Hmm one to ponder!

    Back to reading!

I'm a bit late to the party and haven't read all of the posts, but can I join the challenge please?
I've just had a wardrobe clearout of past-it clothes, and bought a few new things in the sales with Christmas money (£113 of clothes from Debenhams for £27!) as I am starting a uni course soon to be a nurse so will need to look smart for placements where I won't wear uniform. Included in this was a pair of very comfy flat black shoes as I will be on my feet a LOT!
I had to dip into the savings to replace the living room chair which broke (it was old and rickety for ages!) so hopefully that's my furniture spends out the way for a while!
So my plan from now on is to buy no more clothes/shoes for the rest of the year, nothing for the house unless it is a replacement for a broken item that we really need, no books as I have loads still unread, and no music as I have plenty! The only exception to the books will be textbooks but I am hoping to get any of these second hand.

  • Permission to come aboard captain? Apologies for being adrift but have spent the past 10 days reading up on all the posts from the start!

It's so good to be with like minded souls. I also have too much stuff. Too many books. Too many toiletries (shower gel, body lotion, handcream, cleanser, exfoliator, face masks). Too many balls of wool, too much fabric, too much card making stuff.

I need to declutter my life and my house - and I want to not be ashamed when people visit as I have so much stuff.

thanks for the info on selling books on amazon - I will have a look at that.

Trying to eat my way through the contents of my freezer and think I have enough evening meals for the rest of the month, so will hopefully only need fresh bits.

  • Thats 70 quids worth of stuff sold on ebay this month. Including a lovely pair of ankle boots, never worn from a vegan site, however having broken my arm when wearing heels in 2008, Ive never worn a pair since, totally psychological, but I just cant do it, wasnt the heels fault, just a random fall thanks to people spilling their drinks on a dance floor.

But Im glad people are getting use of stuff, not bothered about letting it go. Funny how stuff just sits in your cupboard for years and then you think, I'll sell it and pass it on to other people. Im not someone who looks to make lots of cash on ebay, even £5-10 quid is fine by me, but I have a long way to go, by the end of the year I am sure I will have everything I no longer need or want sold, freecycled or charity shopped.

Today I spent 2 quid in iceland, 95p for a slimline tonic water and 79p for some yogurt and that was it.

I needed yogurt to put on my porridge oats hence the visit to iceland, also bought a small bar of choc while I was there.

I am really pleased with the amount of non supermarket spending Ive done this month, usually its a drip drip drip of low cost spending, my local aldi is next to home bargains.

I have enough leek and tomatoes to make at least 3 more pots of soup, maybe more.

Leek makes fabulous soup, the onion, leek and tomato soup I made the other day, I was amazed by how good it tasted.

I am also going to buy some more porridge asap, the breakfast oats will make a really cheap breakfast so am going to continue on with that.

Still have some of the fruit I bought ten days ago to eat up, so better crack on with that.

I was in barnardos today and picked up a black dress, for 99p, usually Id have bought it, but I stopped, thought of this thread and said to myself, I have 2 black dresses I like in the house, so I didnt.

I actually saw an article this morning where a girl is wearing second hand clothes for a year to raise money in memory of her mum, shes the same age as me, she looked amazing.

I was always really interested in fashion before life hit and I ended up with low confidence, I think it really is time that I started wearing some of the different combinations of clothes I have at home, instead of playing it safe all the time.

    Evening

Not much to report other than a spend of £3 on Friday night on oranges and cat treats (he wil have my life if I run out), didn't leave the house over the weekend so no further spending.

Im still working through freezer and cupboards, no fear of running out of anything yet but I appear to be getting more conscious of what needs using up to prevent any waste. Made homemade chips last night to use up last of potatoes , can't actually remember the last time I made them as normally buy a bag of frozen chips which last months but don't have any left.

Also made a sweet mincemeat crumble traybake on Saturday to use up flour that I bought at least a year ago, out of date butter (it passed the smell and sight test) and mincemeat in jar that had blown....didn't half taste nice! Unfortunately I ended up freezing some before cooking as there was too much just for me to eat in one go :rotfl: will send mother home with some next time she visits

Does anyone know if dried yeast with a best before date of October 2014 will still work?
  • so tomorrow I have to go to Mr T to buy dinner for me n a friend as there is nothing left in the house that I can serve as a dinner for 2

however, this is the first time I will have been to the supermarket (or any for that matter) since last year so part of me (i think irrationally) is slightly gutted that will have to actual break the trend and go into mr t's. (Is that just me?!)

This is such a turn around in my thinking that I thank you all and Captain Slowdown for this thread. xx

Are you absolutely SURE there is nowhere else you could get something from? Do you pass any independent shops that might sell what you need? It may mean going to more than one shop, but it might also be more fun than going to the supermarket.

Not a NSD day today. Paid to unlock a phone, but only so I can go on giffgaff for lots less money.
Did a food shop in Mr T and picked up some frozen chicken breasts in the freezer reduced section (they had 500g ones for £1.50 and 800g ones for £2, these were the £2 ones). Turns out I was charged £8 each for them at the checkout so I went to customer service and got double the difference back. Wouldn't mind but even the customer service assistant said nobody would pay £8 for them! So it might be worth checking if they are in your local store.
And have sold a piece of furniture that we can't take when we move for £40, so I'm about even today, and have got more space back in the bargain.
  • Ahoy shipmates. Like slowdown I think of us on a Galleon sailing the high seas of life with its ups and downs.

Had to spend money today on dog food and new specs. Bought some dog food on offer which should last the old man 2months according to the packaging. He is a very old dog and has started losing weight recently so I want to build him up. Bought the specs using :money: MSE code got 2 designer frames with delivery for £33 very pleased as my last pair cost me £125 from the optician.

I told someone today that I am focusing on my retirement they could believe that I didn't want to carry on working....
