NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Good luck to everyone at appointments and going to hospital today.
I cannot believe two people can accumulate so much stuff! Finished off clearing out one of the under eaves cupboards, resulting in a boot full of stuff for the CS and five bags of things for the tip. Also plenty of things for recycling. I have had a quick look at the other cupboard  and will gird my loins in preparation for that tomorrow.
Last night I bought a ball pit for GD off Amazone with a voucher from swag bucks; so that was free. Also bought a cube bookcase to turn into a dolls house, again with a voucher meaning it cost £3.85! I'm quite chuffed with that.
Later, I need to start writing some personal statements for the master's courses I'm applying for. I also need to look at funding sources. Next week I have an interview for voluntary work with local children. I hope I'm accepted as this is the area I want to go into. So need to start preparing for that!
One step at a time though
Everyone have a good day.

Planning a NSD today which is second in a row meal planned till Sunday too so unless anything I have forgotten about should not have tp spend till then, got two birthdays next week so will get them sorted Sunday as will be working till then.
Decluttered two drawers this morning so much so they are now empty lovely feeling can't believe how much rubbish I used to hoard on to my wardrobe just after lunch of HM leek and potato soup.
Set up a savings plan this morning with my bank online with a better than average rate for tying it up for a year as long as I make regular savings each month doing maximum of £250 monthly for a holiday next year, can't see as having more than weekend away this year so will be something to look forward to will be our 35th wedding anniversary too I always find I save better if I set up a SO transfer as soon as I get paid . Everyone seems to be doing so well let's hope this is just the beginning of successful MS year.Frugal challenge 2025

Spent my lunch hour learning the guitar solo in Landslide. I am determined to have it down for an upcoming gig.
So not only did I not spend a penny, I accomplished something pretty cool! :j

Food shop today in Aldi. £30. Not too bad but I can get it down to £25 or less I'm sure with better meal planning and more cooking from scratch.
Managed to do a large pile of ironing and put it away (rather than dumping in down somewhere:o).
Just made lasagna for dinner tonight with the left over turkey burger mix I made yesterday....just added a tin of tomatoes...cheap, wholesome and relatively easy to make:)
Struggling a little with tiredness at the moment (started taking citalopram recently) but hoping that will soon pass.
Hoping everyone else is doing well.0 -
Hi everybody.
It's been a good today.
Went to nearby town to see if I could find a couple of token presents for friends who have birthdays later in the month. Found what I was looking for and thought that I would get the cards as well when I remebered that I have a stash at home. Have come home and found a couple of suitable cards and gift bags for the presents so have saved myself at least £4.00.
I also dropped of my bag for the cs so that's another thing out of the house.
Yesterday evening in Mr T's I got 3 yellow peppers for 6p each & a pack of leeks for 15p. These will be the base for my soup tomorrow. No need today to buy bread for my sandwiches for work tomorrow & Thursday as I have just cooked another pack of part cooked rolls left over from Christmas. Slowly but surely I will use what I have got in the house already.
I decided it was time to have a cull of my remaining books. I have got rid of most of the fiction ones since I bought my kindle. One of the best things I did as I still have the books I want but they take up no shelf space. I do however have some craft books and cookery books that I never use so I have looked on Amaz!n and found which ones they will take as a trade in. I will do this in a couple of days time when I have managed to get a box from work to pacck them in. Better to have some money for them than dust them.
Keep up the good work. We're all on the right course for our personal journeys.0 -
Liliyanna I am a long term non-drinker. Have drunk on occasion but I used to get giggly on lemonade and am happiest with that. Other people aren't. I have been called uptight, don't know how to enjoy myself, people have tried to slip gin or vodka into my drinks - yes I can taste it and they're both vile and disgusting.
However, as with other areas of my life, the older I get the less I care about what other people think and have no intention of fitting in with how they think I should behave. I think people see it as a criticism of their habits but that isn't how I intend it, more likely that they subconsciously know they have a problem (I live in a very hard drinking town - it's not uncommon to see people drinking at 9 or 10 in the morning even though the Council have introduced 'no drinking' by-laws).
My eldest son (living in a nearby town) commented on seeing someone he thought was doing the 'walk of shame' (going home from the night before) then realising they were joining the queue waiting for the pub to open at 11am - he thought if they looked the way they did, perhaps another all day session wasn't the wisest course of action.
I'm not saying your OH has a problem but don't give in to the pressure to join in (and be mindful of his sensitivity). My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0 -
I'm not doing dry January technically, just staying off alcohol for a while. After a rubbish few years, really rubbish with some really awful stuff family went through I ended up basically just getting through day to day and treated my body like a toxic waste dump. That doesn't mean to say I never ate healthily or exercised or looked after myself, but my confidence was zero after a few life events and I ate and drank too much. Ive been healthy, really big, thinner, but in December 2012 I broke my tailbone, went from being overweight but still fit to massive within the space of about 3 months.
In June 2013 I was just short of 100kgs, thats 15 stones 10. Im now 11 stones 10 which isnt small, but I do a lot of exercise and I'm in ok shape, Im comfortably in a size 14 and I got my backside into a pair of size 12 workout trousers this morning.
I am terrible with moderation, I didn't used to be, but I think the stress of the few years gone by just saw me lose the plot, Ive said this on other threads, if I had a bottle of wine in the house and opened it, Id drink it. If I had a 400g packet of crisps Id have a good go at them too.
I didnt drink alcohol from the 2nd of Jan last year until the 1st of June until I went on holiday to Spain. I stopped again but towards the end of last year on nights out Id have a few, Id say I probably did about 8 months last year alcohol free. When Im at home I don't drink, when Im out with my mum I don't drink, when Im out with people who don't know me very well I do feel more pressure, because the minute you say you don't drink, people assume you have an issue and I can't be bothered explaining and neither should I need to.
Ive thought about it long and hard and I think what is going to have to give is going out to pubs. If it means me going out to a pub once a month rather than once or twice a week then that's what I need to do (I used to run a big social group through the site meet up and what most people wanted to do, was go pubbing and clubbing).
I'm also a qualified addiction worker so no one has to tell me the downsides of alcohol, I know, Ive seen it and I have the knowledge.
It is hard, because we live in a drinking culture, I live in the west of scotland and without wanting to stereotype people, there's a big pub culture, for a medium sized town mine has a lot of pubs and there are some people who sit in the local spoons at 11am and no matter what time of day or night you happen to pop in, you'll find the same crowd sitting there and you could set your watch by them turning up.
A drink now and again like at christmas and on holiday is the way it has to be for me, firstly because I do put on weight easily and anything too much off plan really shows on the scales, but secondly because I spent too many years feeling crap about myself, staying in, eating and drinking rubbish to want to go back there.
Everyone is different, some people can take or leave alcohol, Im the kind of person that if I do have a drink at home it has to be one drink that I buy and drink, the same way that I don't have crap food around the house, if I want it, I go out and have it.
That's the upside to me being single, because goodness only knows what I would do if I ended up living with someone whose staple diet was white bread and worcester sauce crisp sandwiches, Id need to padlock their cupboards.
Its possible to have a lot of fun without alcohol, sometimes it's not yourself you need to convince, it's other people around you.0 -
purpleshoes - it's none of anyone's business why you don't drink, but you can always just tell them you're on medication at the moment and it doesn't agree with you. At least during January, you have dryathlon going on, so people will assume it's that. And there are usually one or two other non-drinking things going on. Maybe you can tell them you're doing a sponsored dry month/quarter/year and get them to donate to charity for you0
