1 of 3 a tablet could replace your computer but if you do a lot of typing it can be annoying typing on a touchscreen rather than having a keyboard. If you use any specific software then I would check that they will still work ok with the tablet operating system. Also does your library offer digital magazines? Mine started offering them and I can now get all the titles I would have bought for free with email alerts when there are new issues so worth checking this out. Have you looked getting a small laptop rather than tablet?]

    Hi

Thank you for this. My local library doesn't offer this facility as of yet. I will have a look at small laptops aswell as tablets and see which suits me best
    NOT BUYING IT 2018!

Consumerism is.....buying things you don't need with money you don't have to impress people you don't know and probably wouldn't like even if you did know them.

. But i think there is a big issue with the modern day freezer manufacturers which they need to address because virtually none of them now are suitable for cold locations like garages, shred or outhouses which are the only places where most people have the space to store big freezers.
We have a large upright freezer about 30 years old which lives happily in our garage no matter how low the outside temperature falls. I dread it packing up because I have been unable to identify a modern replacement which will survive the same conditions

We purchased a large 7 drawer upright freezer last year to go in a shed for our garden produce, ys buys and homemade goodies. This was one of only a few I found that could go in to a garage or a cold place. The make is Bek* if that is any help to anyone. I purchased it on line through the Co*op as this was the cheapest with free delivery.

  • I may need to start pickling some veg (says she as if shes ever done anything like that in her life). At christmas I suddenly got a notion for some mixed pickles and my mum managed to get some but they weren't the kind I wanted, not her fault but the ones I used to eat christmases gone by were rowats, no one seems to sell them anymore, you used to get mixed pickles and pickled cauli. I don't like cauliflower but I like pickled cauliflower, the jars you used to buy had were yellow, the colour of the veg was yellow, have found nothing like that in any supermarket lately.

Ive lost my cooking oomph, probably from sitting around on my bahookie all christmas and new year, I cook every day so I had better get back to it tomorrow, dinner was a pack of polenta I found in the cupboard and some mixed pickles, the kind my mum did manage to buy and before I look like Im going to keel over with scurvy, Ive had a couple of clementines and a couple of bananas already today. Actually I did make a pot of soup at my mums, but still cooked far less than I normally would day to day.

It's so cold out there. It was horrible here yesterday, gale force winds and pouring rain, but today its been really cold. I went a two minute walk to the local shop just wearing a hoodie instead of a jacket and wished I hadn't.

Anyway, once I manage to drag my sorry carcass to the gym tomorrow, Im going to come back and make some soup, some smoothies and either a mushroom curry or a mushroom stroganoff, have everything I need in to make it, so won't need to buy anything.

Im also trying to stay on the wagon alcohol wise, had some at christmas and wasnt going to drink at hogmanay but had a couple of small glasses of wine, but bootcamp starts on the 13th and theres no alcohol for the 8 week duration so I need to get alcohol free before then so Im not stomping about like Kevin the teenager giving it, it's not fair.

Funds permitting I think if I get to the end of the year and manage to be as frugal as I can be, I'd like to get away for a couple of days, Ive been to Prague a few times, once on my own, also Budapest and a few other places, but Ive always fancied Iceland, either that or Berlin.

Might even just !!!!!! off and see a couple of bits of Scotland Ive yet to see.

I can see me spending a lot of time in the gym this year, will keep me away from the shops, but that's not such a bad thing.

As well as cooking, tomorrow I need to get my decluttering head back on so am going to head off to bed shortly as I'll be up fairly early as I've got a fair bit still to do.

I gave away a lot of my dance fitness cds that I had when I was an instructor, technically you aren't supposed to as they are yours, but you aren't allowed to play them in any other fitness class apart from that franchise and they are nil use to me anymore so I packaged them up and sent them off to an instructor friend who lives in Bristol. Better than sitting and gathering dust.

I'll go to *certain brand of dance fitness* hell for that, but too bad, stopped teaching that well over a year ago, nil point in them sitting around my flat.

    Hi natnat

I am with FD and I don't pay £10 per month so don't know if this is a new change or related to type of current account. Also, you are right there is no credit interest but I get a free £250 overdraft ( which I don't use) and you can have the regular saver account at 6% per annum ( was 8 % last year) so I transfer money to that each month. I fell out with halifax a while ago over issues with their standing order system. It's otherwise not a bad account

    Bexster :)

Thanks Bexster, I quite possibly read it wrong, until then it was sounding great. I may well give them a call to check I think.

And thanks to 7 week wonder, you sound really bank savvy. I may start a savings account too.

    Hi 1of3

Just a thought. My hubby has a tablet which you can use a Blu Tooth keyboard with. He uses the keyboard when he has to type a lot of text. Otherwise he just uses the screen on the tablet. His tablet is a L*novo but I think other makes do exactly the same with regards to Blu Tooth and keyboards.

Hope that is some help to you!!

Well I picked up my friend and we drove to a lovely country pub and it was closed! Guessing they are having an annual break, fair enough. So we went into town and my dear friend bought me 2 drinks and some cheesy chips. I felt slightly uncomfortable when she went for the 2nd round but she insisted and understands my situation and I think she wanted to get out the house so was pleased I came out. And I think she spent less than £15 all together. good friends are priceless (no pun intended!)

  • Took the dog to the vets, ouch .... nearly £30 for injections and a check up. Went to the butchers and Tesc Hell to get some needed supplies. Had a big declutter of paperwork ready for burning tomorrow, gas bills from 2000!!!!! Couldn't believe it.
Took 3 big bags of stuff to CS today including kitchenware that I don't really need and a stool that I found in the garage. Feeling very virtuous :j

DH and I have been talking about downsizing I can't decide if it is the right thing to do. When you think about the cost of selling, the stamp duty and then the small difference in bills I'm not sure it is worth it. We only use half of our house until the children return on high days and holidays. Any advice would be welcome.

    Could do better xx

This thread is saving me!! I wanted to get a coat stand shoe bench all in one thingy, but the one I want is about £500:eek:. So I have taken the overdoor hanger from upstairs and am going to use that whilst I save up. Also we were going to look at new sofas tomorrow, but now I'm thinking i would like to do the whole room, so I'm going to save up for all the other bits I want before getting the sofas. Ours are fine at the minute so no urgent need.

I can't believe what is happening to me:T:j.

    Thank you everyone.

  • Well it was a first today. Went to the shop to buy toilet rolls and eggs... And came out with JUST TOILET ROLLS AND EGGS!!!
On the downside I am in the doghouse because apparently, in my over zealous de-cluttering, I have thrown all DDs school books away - hoping this isn't the case and they will turn up tomorrow. Tea out of the freezer and cupboard but stocks only running down slowly, really need to get out of the habit of buying things I don't need yet. This seems to be the case with everything - food, clothes, shoes, books, craft supplies. They're all useful and I will want/need then in the future but there is no need to buy it yet. So from now on the money is being saved. I wish I had priced up all the food in the freezers and cupboards, it would be interesting to see how much could be in an isa instead!

Evening shipmates and happy to report a small spend of 92p on cookies from local shop today so total of £1.97 spent in three days. Was planning on first shop today but can wait until tuesday when market is on. Still lots of food in store cupboard and freezer so using up but will need fresh veg and fruit soon.
Am amazed by amount of food there actually is and as DS1 is not around for two weeks will empty more slowly.
Weather was miserable here so no desire to go further than usual dog route.
Decluttering ongoing and last of xmas decks down and packed away, gift tags made from old cards, wrapping paper and ribbons stored in one hopefully findable place. Nice and peaceful day with not buying it.
