Just cleared up after my chilli left over from last night.
Brought some YS chicken fillets out of freezer which will do tomorrow & Monday-not sure what yet, but one day will be curry-home made with spices, and limp mushrooms & peppers from fridge.

I took loads of stuff to the CS today, and bought a Hawkshead jacket/coat from the sale rail for £2, I was very pleased fits well, it's quite dressy so will look nice when dressed up a bit!

That's the only spending I've done today, hubby was in attic again for most of day (believe me it was a mess up there!)

Got stacks of things to ebay now, which are making the place more cluttered, so I'll have to sort out a place for them to go, and try and get the 20 items on in a month.

I feel like having a bath to warm up, as it's been bl**dy freezing here today-but I did shower this morning!
Do I need to run hot water (on meter) on something I don't really need?????No
So I'm putting on my warm PJ's and woolly socks that have been on the radiator with my massive dressing gown.
I might list something on ebay.............

    Hi natnat

I am with FD and I don't pay £10 per month so don't know if this is a new change or related to type of current account. Also, you are right there is no credit interest but I get a free £250 overdraft ( which I don't use) and you can have the regular saver account at 6% per annum ( was 8 % last year) so I transfer money to that each month. I fell out with halifax a while ago over issues with their standing order system. It's otherwise not a bad account

    Hello All,

Forgive me I have had a big spend day!

I have spent £308.99 on a new chest freezer to go in the cowshed ( redundant) thats attached to our house. I had tried freecycle, got one and it didnt work well at all as the cowshed was too cold. Doing research I realise I need one that operates down to -15. I looked around and got the best deal for the largest freezer, also free collection of huge failed freezer.
In my defence it will be used for future NSD's as it will be used for home produced veg, fruit and meat plus my obsessive compulsion to but YS bargains whenever I see them. I go home from work via local Co-*p at about the time they do the 75% reductions, Im on good terms with the employees and they often reduce them as I stand there!
I work close to a market and I will investigate the fruit and veg prices compared to Al*i super 6 and my YS bargains. My main shop is usually Al*i with bargains added along the way.
Once the kids go back to school I will be looking out any Xmas bargains that can be put away for the next one.
I've totally decluttered the pig hole of a play room with 3 bags to go to CS, several bags of recycling and one small one for the rubbish. My next room to tackle is my spare room/craft/sewing room with my stash of fabrics, bargains in my desk etc I hope to streamline what I have and recycle/donate what I dont need.

Anyway hope you all can forgive me!

6 unplanned nsd's for me this week and tomorrow will be the 7th thanks to the lurgy that has been doing the rounds. Luckily, my meagre 'when the shtf' preparations have got us through the week.

I have xmas money and giftcards to spend and have pretty much missed all the good sale stuff now :(

Had the most fantastic day out.

Got some books from charity shop, some Christmas cards for 2016 that were half price and also a half price XMAS tree for 2016. All were in my list. Resisted buying thermal socks, not needed, lots of clothes in m and Sparks, not needed, gifts for 2016 xmas, not needed as doing secret santa, masses of food, not needed as food menu plan done and all required food bought. Reckon I have not spent over £200 today that I could have spent!. I have bought stuff on my list, new iron, new kettle and whilst this looks extravagant this is my first shopping day out since beg of dec and I have been writing and rethinking the list of what I really need rather than want.

Now this week, my quilting equipment should arrive and I can start my new crafting activity. The idea being that whilst doing this it will help me break the shopping habit. That said my whole personal spend last year including groceries was £7800, fed up to 5 a day and never went on holiday. This figure included spending a frightening amount on knitting wool! Lets see if quilting is going to cheaper.

I am one of the lucky ones who could spend if I really wanted to, I would just rather reduce borrowings and acquire long term savings if I can. Sorry to ramble on so long, but it has been a day of spending and not spending all mixed up!
  • Evening everyone!

No idea if i'll ever be able to catch up on the tread once I'm back at work..... It is so busy; but also so interessting to read what everybody is up to.

thriftwizard I like your idea with the sheets for the quilt. I once needed some plain white fabric for lining etc. Got a sheet from IKE@...

elaine, see the freezer as ihvestment and not spending!

I'm also growing my hair at the moment because I hate going to the hairdresser. I had a very nice one and it was always a treat for me to go there every few months. But now she stopped working two years ago and ever since I'm searching for a good one...

Did my groceries shop and bough the first non-groceries thing for this year. A torch... Wanted to buy one for ages since the old one gave up the ghost and now walked throug the household aisle and decided to finally get one. So it is now ready in a place where I can easily find it.

Just made two sentenced candles in a jar as a belated christmas present for two friends I'll meet next week. I tried to copy the lavender and mint smell of a candle I've once bought and it worked quite well. It worked with less mess than I thought it will, so this won't be my last candle-making-attempt.

    have a nice evening everyone!

I looked at first direct bank as they pay £125 for you to transfer BUT I discovered they charge £10 a month after the first 6 months and no interest! Good to read the small print. So instead I upgraded my Halifax account to a reward one that pays me £5 a month as long as I deposit £1000.

Following on from what Bexter wrote: you don't have to pay a £10 charge so long as you either pay in £1000 a month, or you have one of their other products (in my case £1 in a savings account). More details here (at the bottom). You could always open both accounts and play musical money once a month. Each month I have £1000 that goes round four different accounts collecting interest on its way - it then ends up back in my main current account where it has a well earned rest :)

We've just had a left-overs stir-fry using the last of the Christmas turkey and New Year duck, a sense of normality is beginning to return to the house.

There's nothing to forgive Elaine - the point of this is to stop spending money unnecessarily, not to stop spending completely. We each have a personal opinion of what this is, but I'm sure everyone will understand that your purchase today was necesssary.

Spent today, but that was the Sky (tied into a contract but I actually like Sky anyway) and food for work. Total spend of £30.77. Tbh I'm not that bothered about the amount of NSD's I have, for me it's more important that the total amount spent is lower than it has been in previous years. I could only spend on 5 days one month but still buy things that cost more than in a month I spend on 20 days, if you see what I mean.

Today's been half at work, half at home. Had a lovely toad in the hole with cabbage and roasties waiting for me when I got home, and have been stitching for a couple of hours, before curling up with a good book.

One thing that's getting me down at the moment is how difficult it is to constantly try to get people to pre-order my book. It's ironic really that I'm cutting my spending whilst trying to get people to spend, but it's for a good reason. It's just disconcerting sometimes.

Had a NSD here, and made soup out of some YS parsnips that were not looking their best!

This year I'm going to remember to do my yougov surveys and get that £50!

Not much done on the decluttering front today, but I have found a little box that I can put the ornaments in that I want to keep, but don't want on display currently
