Until last year we kept everything. But it's very liberating to be getting rid of stuff, I wish we had done it sooner!
Today the chest freezer should be going. Not sure if it counts as a NSD as today I should also be getting a couple of lovely little bedside tables from the local Fbook selling site, but at least they cost half of what I'm getting for the freezer, and we can use them.
I don't feel I've done enough over these xmas hols, but DH really hasn't been all that well and needed the rest. That's my excuse anyway.
  • Hello everyone,

I've lurked on this forum for years but never posted until now. This thread has really struck a chord with me. My house is overflowing with stuff that I've bought or been given over the years. I need to stop just buying and also decluttering and stop spending quite so much money. I'm on my own at home with two lovely male Herberts (10 & 8) in a teeny tiny two bed roomed home which we have outgrown. I have spent the last year battling depression and now I feel as tho I'm coming to a point where I'm feeling so much better and ready to start making changes which will have positive outcomes for us all. I'm really blessed with a lovely partner (who lives with his three Herberts) and a wonderful close family. I don't have internet at home so may find it hard to join in all the time but I'm hoping all you lovely people will let me join in and any tips or tricks as to where to start would be very gratefully received :) thank you x

    Afternoon all,

Nice easy day here today. Went for a walk with the dog and kids. Crikey, it's cold out there! Didn't so much as blow the cobwebs away as freeze them to you!#

MIL is cooking lunch today so all we have to do is get uniforms ready for tomorrow and put some washing away.

    Happy Sunday!

    Morning all

Another spend day for me with the kids meat run yesterday £29 this gives me meat for 16 meals for the 3 of them, im simplifying the menu this year with a take it of leave it approach already put to the test with the youngest (17) yesterday when he decided he didn't fancy the pasta bake I made, but decided he'd actually prefer that then make something for himself :D
I wouldn't deliberately make something that the kids dislike but mums restaurant is closed and it's a self catering facilities from now on :rotfl:

I've slightly lowed my food budget this year from £80 to £60 PW for 5 adults this includes all food/cleaning as we've decided on our "instead of Christmas 2015" holiday with a return to the US for 3 weeks over the end of Jan/Feb, with our gift to the kids being the cost of the accommodation, with a £2100 price tag this seemed horrific but when it's broken down it's £17 PPPN for the 6 of us (1 lad not living at home) I intend to save/make this a day on top of doing the 52 week challenge that i've started in reverse it doesn't have to be paid until end of November but IT will be in the bank by April end.
Will still have flights/car hire/food and spends on-top so another 3K for DH, myself and the youngest still in college but DH says he's got that covered (meaning his track/weekend car will stay SORN this year) so who am I to argue as my original thinking was a week in Malta or the Canary's island's

I initially thought you meant spinning as in cycling until I clicked your link. Thought you must be really hardcore if you can do hours of that :rotfl::T:rotfl::T:rotfl:

Spent money on food yesterday and the day before.

Just nipped up the shop to get some meat for my lunch. And walked out as really did not fancy any of it.

came home found a basic brand cottage pie no idea how long in the freezer. And some roasties, and yorkshires. And a crumble that was bought not 30th December 2014 but 2013!!!

say to defrost it first. Oh yes not. Straight in the oven.

Upside is I have no heating so now sat in the kitchen. As it's getting nice and warm from having the oven on.

Also think I am coming down with the lurgy felt rough yesterday. A bit better today.

Need to put my new bike away in the shed. Got it tuesday and it been the boot of the car ever since LOL!!! Its made it as far as the garden.

I need to sort out my laziness. I bought lemons in November to make elimcello umm they are still in the fridge!!!!

    Yours

I am having a very lazy Sunday today. I have emptied my cupboards and freezer and done a stock take though. I have salmon, a tin of tuna, tinned pots and fruit, beans, fish fingers, a curry and lasagne and enough stuff for packed lunches this week. No bread or bread flour but I have ingredients for cheese scones and going to make some choc chip buns to keep my DS's happy. Also got lots of sweet pots and carrots so going to make some soup too.
I'm hoping not to shop until next Sunday, it will be a supermarket shop when I do but Lidl not a giant one.

Heading back to work tomorrow - so house is in ship shape order. I'm lucky when we moved away we couldn't take much with us - 2 big suitcases each. Means I have very little clutter around the house! Sold an old cheap phone I bought when I moved here so that is taken care of driving lessons at the weekend.
Only other thing I have extra to sell and get rid of is one broadband box for when we were in our apartment - that will be going this week as well hopefully- must stick it on face bookie.

Got all our meals planned out, hoping to use up the Christmas turkey and ham that is still in our freezer!

  • A couple of little wins today:

Went through all the veg seeds we have - put my seeds and my mother in laws together as we have a shared plot. Seems like we need to buy very little :-)
Took hot crumpets and tea out to hubby and son digging on the plot.
Another trip to the recycling centre required, hubby mentioned that he might used his spends to treats us to a...... I interrupted and said that I'm sure what he was about to say is when he gets back we can make chocolate cupcakes using ingredients we have for a treat for after we sweep the chimney. He agreed and saved his money.
Plus this means that instead of eating whatever takeaway he was going to get we can stick to the meal plan and use the veg etc I've already prepared.
Some enormous carrots and parsnips have been harvested, will clean them up and store in fridge, will save a few pennies from this weeks shop.
Currently watching the big allotment challenge :-)

2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.

Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
    Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(
