I also have a condition with symptoms the same as fibro / me but I've never been good at pacing so get caught out a lot. I am pondering about getting a referal to try fodmap this year, but as I struggle with cooking right now I need a good 6 months of trying to live with out takeaways first else it just won't work.
For those not wanting the cost of an OU course but just love learning, have a look at coursera and edx or just any mooc provider. They are basically the same style as an OU course but free, they have no offically recognised certificates currently though. It is worth doing one if you're not sure if you could cope with the OU work load though as you could always move on to OU after you finish one of those courses first knowing you could juggle the homework etc.

Afternoon Shipmates, it's a drizzly one here.
I have decluttered for 15 mins, sorted out the weekly meal plan and am now looking forward to a quiet afternoon with my knitting.
OH stated today that he wanted to go and buy some pillow protectors tomorrow (his pillows do get mucky) but I have persuaded him to accept me making some as I have a load of thin white cotton. I might try and quilt them too. My fist NBI challenge:jNow Mrs FrugalinShropshire:T Proud to be mortgage and debt free:j0 -
Well first day of 2015 is going well, no spending and meals from fridge, guests go back tomorrow so I can sort out what I have left to eat and then it's all steam ahead.
Thanks for gardening tips, I like to grow a couple of bits in a raised bed and pots, but this year thought I may have a go at some different veggies, so handy tips very welcome.
Decided to try and manage on the money I have left from Xmas for my groceries, but I've just added it up and I have the grand total of a little less than £20 , so thinking I'll have to get some out of the bank other wise I'll starve!!!! But I will be as frugal as possible and not get any until I need it, and I'll keep updating to keep me on track

Wow - seems like such a coincidence that so many of us have auto immune diseases. I have Polymyalgia Rheumatica which is supposed to disappear after 2-3 years but mine is still hanging on.
Wonder if there is a connection here somewhere...:happylove0 -

With regards to tomatos/peppers if you've no greenhouse make sure you buy a specific outdoor variety. Propagate on a warm window sill when the packet says but when you feel the weather is warm enough, when big enough leave outside in he sunniest location during the day but bring in over night to harden them up. Plant them in pots like CAFCgirl said. Place the pots of compost in the space with the most light/sun but sheltered against a wall or similar. If bad weather is predicted you can move them to a sheltered location (even if shady) until it's safe to bring them back out. Remember to feed as well as water them and take off the side shoots.
I am hoping for a master class from my mother in law on tomatos/peppers as I never know what leaves to take off!x
The capiscum family[chillis & peppers], need setting early, normaly febuary here in midlands, best in light coloued pot's, and it's a caseof head in the sun, feet in the shade, somewhere there is a picture showing you the diffrence in root growth of peppers, just by diffrent coloured pots, ps; watch out for red spider mite, usual remady, warm soapy water.hth£71.93/ £180.000 -
Has anyone followed d`adamo re food? Dh and I started a few months ago and cut out certain foods that react badly with our blood groups. I am AB+ and he is O+. for example I used to eat a lot of buckwheat but that is on my avoid list as is chicken, Dh can eat all meat types and hardly any grains. Cooking between us is a bit tricky but I cut eg cabbage and caulie out of his food, whereas they are beneficial (like a medicine) for me, so I eat more of them. The only meats we have in common are lamb, mutton and turkey. We both feel amazing and I am not dieting at all but the weight is rolling off my (important) waist area

Dh feels so well that he has actually started cooking some meals and is making almond milk etc as he has to avoid milk. Just wondering as there are so many autoimmune sufferers, my mum was one and had RA really badly, so it is lurking in the genes somewhere. I only use organic whenever possible. I don`t trust the pesticides, GM, hormones etc
I have ordered some stretch exercise bands today as there is no getting away from the fact that I want to keep strong into old age. It won`t happen if I don`t use my muscles enough. I have a great rebounder and have today printed exercises for it, a bellicon that I got for my last birthday, 12 months ago and which I have used half a dozen times. It is so gentle on my legs and I am a fool, osteoporosis can be prevented with impact exercise. Trouble is I get bored with stuff like that as I am not naturally inclined to bouts of pure exercise without an obvious purpose, like working on the allotment. I am never still but that isn`t enough

Happy new year everyone.
Feeling evry very positive about 2015.
Absolutely loving reading on here. ive decided to make my time more productive, i feel i waste a whole lot of it social networking, so i have deleted instagram and facebook off my phone and it working wonders already, i feel so much freer. I will still use FB sparingly but i will have to log on the pc so it isn't practical to waste hours on it, i feel loads lighter from it tbh.
I still haven't spent since 23rd Dec!! that's an absolute record for me. I will do some shopping at some point in the next few days as we are going away sc next week so need food to take, i will prob do a meal plan tonight. Ive never managed to stay out of a supermarket this long before but my whole midset has changed its fab, instead of buying bread etc ive been making it, my food is lasting because im using leftovers. Tonight is sweet and sour pork and egg fried rice made from scartch and a hm pizza for the kids which was shockingly easy. Feel so happy to be off the lazy train.
Spent most of today cleaning and feel tonnes better for it.
Nearly got sucked in by online shopping a few times but stopped myself.
So glad i found this thread its really changing my life, its going to be so important for me this coming year.
Best wishes to all that you have a lovely year.0 -

) I will have a good think about which veg are our favourites. The trouble is tomatoes and peppers feature quite highly on that list and we don't have any plans for getting a greenhouse. Oh well, we also love beans and peas so I can sow plenty of them.
If I were you I would definitely try and grow some tomatoes. There is no harm in trying, I suppose you will never know if you can grow them without a greenhouse in your area until you try. I would not say the same for peppers though.
I also spotted that The Big Allotment Challenge is back on BBC2 tomorrow night - so I shall watch that for some inspiration too.
Thank you for posting details about the Allotment Challenge. We love that programme. We would have missed that had you not mentioned it!!

Hello iris violet. I grow tomatoes quite successfully outside. I start the seeds off in a cold frame and then pot on later. Gardeners delight and moneymaker are small toms, and I have found them very hardy
