NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

Good morning shipmates and a Happy New Year!
We had a lovely NY eve last night. Friends round and we all chipped in with the food and drinks. A couple of board games, a few drinks and great company.
The girls were admiring a couple of Christmassy decorations I had out, and guess what - they weren't the shiny mass-produced trinkets, they were the handmade treasured gifts. To me that says it all about the Christmas season and life really. Its about the people, the friendships, and kindness, not about how much you've got and how much it cost.
Here's to a mindful 2015 where we care what we buy and where its come from.

Happy New Year everyone! Not doing much today but will be going into town tomorrow. I have some B00ts gift cards to spend and will be using them for my favourite Clarins perfume and to stock up on essential oils ( I use them for lots if things, including home fragrance instead of buying air fresheners). While in town I will visit the market and get some food items. It is part of my New Year's resolution to reduce the amount of supermarket shopping and to buy from butchers, greengrocer and independent shops where possible. I certainly will not be getting caught up with all the sales nonsense. Which reminds me...must switch on the house computer - there are probably a hundred emails in our inbox trying to.persuade us to part with our money in the January sales.....fingers on the delete button, folks....One life - your life - live it!0

Happy New Year everyone!
I have not had an opportunity to read all the posts yet but I will catch up during the day between decluttering.
I am now on my 5th NSD and thus far going well. I did notice that a couple of times I put items in my amazon checkout bag but then I thought 'what am I doing? I am decluttering and I wish to bring more items back in to the house?' Now I cannot even remember what those items were. This thread is a godsend to me as it will allow me to focus on why I have spent so much on items in the past that I have not ever used or read.
To my fellow fibromyalgia sufferers I sympathise. Just quickly, I found for me I need to pace myself which I still find hard to do which probably explains why I am aching today. Also, for me warmth is a boon for an aching neck and back.
Time to get up and get aboard for 2015. Good Luck all!

Morning all!
Happy new year and loving reading all your not buying it plans for 2015! It's great to read how you are all adapting it to suit your lifestyle and gives me lots of ideas too!
So today's plan is a lazy day, the last day with my sister and brother in law here :-( they are off back to Germany in the early hours.
Today I will:
Write a meal plan for the week ahead.
Attempt to have a super frugal first week with absolute minimal shopping. Using frozen veg, tinned fruit and other items we have instead of buying fresh.
Enjoy the last day with my sister here.
Advertise my bread maker free of charge to give away and my not used enough cath kidston bag for sale.
From tomorrow my husband is back at work and our visitors will have left so I shall start decluttering and having a good tidy up and spring (winter!) clean. My aim is to try and sell anything worth more than £5, if it doesn't sell in a week it can go to a charity shop along with any smaller items!
My simple mindful year is going to extend to our home, simplifying and reducing our possessions, making our home work for us and be set up for how we live in it (rather than fashionable and unpractical!). Making sure everything has a home and that the tops of units are only decorated with things I love or are useful to make things easier to clean.
After I've decluttered in earnest I'm going to review my budget and look for savings there!
IWAB x2024 - happy, healthy, quality over quantity, buy nothing new (and 2nd hand only if NEEDED), mindful spending, nurturing myself and family, living for now.
Mortgage @ 31/12/23 £248k - too high, interest rate gone up - want this down asap!
Debt @ 31/12/23 £16k - no interest - will clear over 5 years hopefully.
Emergency savings £4k - been ransacked over last year - needs attention :-(0 -
OOOOh I'd snap up a free bread maker if one came up local to me.
We're off for a good long walk with the dog to welcome in the new year.
Have a great day one and all xWealth is not measured by currency0 -
Good morning and Happy New Year shipmates!
We had a lovely meal yesterday evening: we were so full of main course that there was no room for Christmas pudding. Instead we had a little bit of ice cream with some sauce made from frozen blueberries.
Today we won't be venturing out of the house. We will watch the New Year's Day concert from Vienna and generally catch up on reading, with a bit of pottering and decluttering thrown in for good measure.
Then tomorrow we're on the road taking mum home to Yorkshire, so quiet times with only essential spending.
Have a gentle start to the New Year everyone.0 -
Morning all,
Not going anywhere today so should be a nice easy NSD to start the year off. Will do some more decluttering, but trying to decide weather to keep the stuff and car boot it in the summer, or just charity shop it.
I had the same issue for me I know really I would really never make time for doing a car boot so used the facebook sell, buy& swap groups if it wasn't gone in a week off it went to CS or freecycle
Hoping to have a wander out today for some fresh air but weather not looking promising I can do cold or wet but not the two together a NSD, decided against cooking roast today be something hauled from the freezer im determined to make inroads in it's frosty depths, Im also stealing an idea I saw as a Birthday gift for a game of thrones fan I have a few blank canvas left from a craft project so plan to paint one black and calligraphy the black watch oath will only cost me time and use up something I plan to remove from the house so it win win0 -
Morning all
Yet another NSD here using up veggies that have been knocking around since before Xmas but perfectly edible and a gammon from the depths of the freezer. Today will be fairly restful, gearing up for all sorts of OS plans to be put into practice, so exciting! I haven't looked at any sales stuff anywhere, barely given them a thought.0 -

I've got a lot more to declutter first, so I've got time to decide, I would prefer to try and make some money on it before donating it.0 -
Another NSD here, using up old but perfectly fine veggies and a gammon from the freezer (cooked yesterday in SC) Will start making my plans and goals for 2015, nearly all of them OS related and careful, considered spending very much included.
apologies for double post, thought I had lost the first one and it magically reappeared!0
