Happy New Year shipmates!
I've decided to plan my time outside work in a more structured way for this year, so that I can work on the ten tasks, and keep my mind occupied and away from all that spending!
The rent comes out today, so that's an unavoidable expense, but aside from that I'm not planning on spending anything.
Hope everyone had a nice new year, and here's to a relatively spend free 20150 -
Happy New Year from this Lurking Stowaway, you amazing, inspirational lot! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

This blog - which turns up regularly on MSE - is the one I used for instructions on how to grow. I grew mine in a polytunnel and it got quite big and the luffas took quite a while to grow and dry. There are other posts that explain how to clean and prepare the luffas too.

Good luck
That's great thank you. It looks a really good blog for me to start reading.
Today we will all be going for a cycle ride to a local rspb reserve. It should be a very MSE day.

Happy new year folks! Can I come on board too? I am fed up of this consumerism hype, so 2015 is the year to do something about it! I cook from scratch, bake as much as time allows, sew, knit, crochet and try as much as possible to use everything I can! I am also starting to plan the patio gardening that I am intending to grow this year. this week I went and bought a darning mushroom, and have started darning OH's socks, and also Dgs has a hole in the kneevof his onesie, so in that respect the fight back has started! By darning these things already I gave covered the cost of the mushroom.
We are having 9 for lunch today and the only thing I needed to buy was cream and toffee for the banoffee pie. OH gets loads of veg free from the farmers, someone is bringing a big steak pie, and the other meats are left overs for Christmas, sweets are made from the store cupboards, so all in all a frugal day, starting as we mean to go on!Every days a School day!0 -
Not sure if I can post this but I'm sure admins will remove if I can't.
I know this is a 'not buying it' thread but I noticed a lot of us have pets and we have to get food for them. (I swear my cats eat better than I do!) I've been using Z00p++s over here in France (and they have a UK branch too) and have found it very reasonable for the dried food I feed my cats. Being delivered to the door, I'm not in the supermarket every week because of them and that removes the temptation to pick up anything else that I think I might need!
Also being out of the UK loop for a few years now, I don't know how prices compare with other UK shops. I do know that I save at least £10 a bag on the brand I buy here without having to leave the house.Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

I felt very much the same, however more in an Old Man Steptoe voice 'How many fireworks? How bloody much? ... they must be mad!' I have never been big on fireworks, they are literally money going up in smoke.
But as it is the start of 2015, a lovely new fresh crisp year... full of optimism and joy, I shall lose my miserly tones and wish you all a very wonderful, healthy, wealthy and wise New Year.xx

Today will definitely be a NSD - NOT BUYING IT DAY for me.
I am menu planning my cupboards, freezer and fridge to within an inch of their lives and hopefully bar milk and dog-food I should be shop free for a week.
I have £10 off a £40 spend with Waitr0se and £6 off a £60 spend with Mr T (expiring Jan4th) trying to tempt to make an extra food order in 2015 that I wasn't going to make. I have twice made orders as the temptation got the better of me - my inner-spender screamed 'BUT YOU'RE SAVING 25% and 10% RESPECTIVELY. AND YOU CAN FILL THE FREEZER.'
However by not using either code I can save 75% and 90% respectively...or £30 and £54 in cold hard cash. And the freezer is almost full anyway...
When it's written down it doesn't half reinforce common sense! And orders cancelled.
This is going to be a very interesting journey for us all and I look forward to the wisdom and friendship it will bring.xxx

Morning all,
Not going anywhere today so should be a nice easy NSD to start the year off. Will do some more decluttering, but trying to decide weather to keep the stuff and car boot it in the summer, or just charity shop it.0 -
Setting sail for Isla De NoBuyIt
Got my sea legs on, some oranges for the journey - i don't want to catch consumer scurvy!
Had a wonderful evening, completely free cinema trip thanks to a friend, saw the last Hobbit film and we had dinner together. Bit more cost wise than expected but we have money in our budget to pay for it so now we need to stick to the plan!
I need a cash machine today to withdraw the food budget - esp as we're going NO SM, i'm never sure if cards will be accepted at smaller places so it covers me for that. I have spare purse which can be used to house that money separate from all others so I can keep a closer eye :A
Wishing you all a pleasant journey on this here fine sea vessel.
To all those living down in the belly of the ship, 'lurkdom'. Pop your head out every so often, breathe the fresh sea air and say hello to your shipmates. We're all in it together, there will always be someone who understands your woe - so dont be a strangerWealth is not measured by currency0
