Thank you to whoever suggested doing one thing extra everyday to get through the never ending list of stuff. So today I have sorted through 3 years worth of receipts and only kept the essential ones for larger purchases.

Thanks for the kick up the bum

Morning shipmates anyone else getting a bit excited?

Re shopping - so many different approaches - my habits have been more like GQ but this has been in the car on the way home from work to various spots Al*i, Morribobs, spa, tosco express (which I will not be doing) and aspiring to be more like IWAB (well done on sis connection) and do one big shop a fortnight starting with a need list and using local market and butcher three miles away along with various stalls for previous SM items. As a back up have a Waitro*se on way home and Coo* in village but only in emergency.
There is also a small market on Tuesday's which may be needed on occasion but I will walk that one with me rucksack which should sort out the want from the need!
Seeds are sorted and planning on making the most of growing more veg this year. Have placed and paid for my fish order who deliver every ten weeks and comes fresh from the dock and intend to keep that habit.
Only need to venture out once today to use up tosco vouchers on slow cooker, bread and milk. Will walk past any 'bargains' as I do not need anything.
Tracking spends will be done each week as I am hoping to come in similar or even less than present.
Hope all have a lovely day

  • Help me!! There are a pair of biker boots that I have wanted for ages.

well I am going to come from a different angle. Being careful in 2015 is not all about deprivation and if those boots would give you pleasure through 2015 then get them but only if you can afford them. You can stroke them every day if you aren`t wearing them and the endorphins will be as good as a tonic and an energy uplift everyday. I don`t deprive myself and I don`t need to justify myself to myself or to dh. If I have the cash and I truly want it and it has a purpose, then I get it

I came back here for a rest, I cannot find those bleeping chocolates but I came across my very large stock of medical herbs and straining pouches, so they are now sorted and thinned down greatly, leaving me with almost an completely empty (small) cupboard. I am going to keep the rest in the kitchen in a dark cupboard, on a shelf I emptied yesterday and in kilner jars with the air taken out. I also found 6 kilo packets of organic lg brown rice, I blame shtf stashing. I was horrified tbh, they will be used but this clearing is going to take a long time

I got rid of chutney in 3 kilners this morning, I was on a roll. The jars are in the dishwasher and I will re-use them when dry, plus another 4 from the shed and all for re-siting my medicinal herbs. Next job is to get 12 x 1 lb jam jars out of the shed and give them to dds with new lids and the marmalade tins and then I am stopping to carry on with spinning. I only do heavyweight stuff until lunchtime as I get up around 6. I always relax in the afternoons, I mean I craft or read or do paperwork

I too shall be resting this afternoon with a bit of cross stitching.

Been up since 4.30 with a darn cough, so far I've had a bath, done the ironing, put brisket in slow cooker for tomorrow, cleaned the bathroom, washed the dishes, washed a load of clothes (now on airer) emptied 2 kitchen drawers of carp. Will need to hoover up at some point but then that's me done!

Morning . Nothing like a visit from Hyacinth Bucket and her family to concentrate the mind! oh well, if nothing else, it's kicked my procrastination into touch!

Oh I feel your pain yellowbear. We have some relatives coming round this afternoon and with these particular people I always feel like we are being inspected and found wanting! Oh well, never mind: we've caught up with some really good friends over the last couple of days and it will only be an hour of so before said relatives swoop off again to see their far more suitable acquaintances :o

The kelpies are amazing - although apparently they have been causing chaos on the nearby motorway as people slow down to look at them.

We braved the supermarket this morning - mainly to help mum get some provisions to take home with her. She gave up her car last year so she has taken the opportunity to stock up on bread mixes, washing liquid etc. The shops didn't seem to busy and people didn't seem to be going too crazy here.

My first two guiding lights are: to spend wisely remembering that cheap isn't always best, and to stop saving things "for best". For example I have some lovely cooking herbs and spices that were bought as a gift for me - the temptation is to keep them in the cupboard for best, eventually they will get old and musty and I will end up throwing them out. Whereas what I should do is use them and savour every minute of them.

    Have a lovely hogmanay everyone!

I'm so with you there 7WW and in a similar vein, If I've bought a box or container for something, I need to put that item into it  Suddenly found it halves the clutter :rotfl:

I've got to do the laundry today and then have a few glasses of wine tonight with some homemade food at home, probably something quick and easy like vegetable pasta. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the fireworks as my dogs hate them. I have a CD to play that is supposed to drown the noise out but it doesn't always work.

I think I'm going to have a spring, well winter, :D clean tomorrow and look around for more stuff to donate/get rid of.

I might look for a ghost story to put on my kindle so hopefully only a few pounds spent and then try and have a healthy day with no alcohol just tucked up reading the book.

  • Well this morning has resulted in a £40 spend through an unforseen disaster. Couldn't have avoided it and had to pay someone to sort it out. Was quoted nearly £100 to start with and even then I had to take this offer to begin with to sort the said disaster out.
Thank god for my emergency fund which is what its there for. I'm glad I've been frugal over the past years living on my own because this would've really upset me if I hadn't had the money.
I'm glad (well sort of) that it happened today and not tomorrow, being new years day and all probably would've cost me more.
Bit gutted but life throws these unforseen things at you and I dealt with it calmly. It couldn't of been avoided and now I'm sitting at home with a cuppa chilling out.
Roll on 2015. My frugal ways have done me justice :T
  • not much to report here I've just been trying to get the house straight again after Xmas I have my hair cut at the local college although you do not get the same person each time I've never had a problem.
I went into town on Monday and got a few bits to put up for Xmas 2015 as well as going to the library I got out the jack Monroe book a girl called jack some really nice looking recipes.
my big thing at this time of year is to sort out the car insurance I've done the usual comparisons and found a quote £40.00 cheaper and if I go through the cash back site I will get an extra £25 back so that's a little victory for me this week :T

have a good day everyone - looking forward to sailing tomorrow into a more mindful way of life.
    Emma :hello:
  • I won't be on tomorrow so - Happy new year to everyone  - lets hope that we all achieve what we set out to while enjoying the journey!! :D :j
