Personal request from Captain Slowdown
It would be great if you could stay on board. People in trouble are our speciality and lifeboats will be launched in emergency situations. Never feel you do not belong or are not wanted as all hands are needed for a successful launch. No sailor should feel a castaway.
Kindest regards and respect

I'd rather go to the dentist (pricey) than the hairdressers (less so).
Still aiming for grey via highlights so one must endure for a bit haha0 -
Feel back on the straight and narrow today thankfully. No spending any money, and I've been to the library to drop off six books and pick up eight, one of which I have already read and reviewed.
Cross stitch wise the zip lock bag sounds like an idea in future, but for the moment I want to leave the crafts at home and possibly work on my writing at work.
Picking up on what everyone is saying about hairdressers that is one luxury I have gone without for a long time. Had a bad experience once (not the style just the attitude of the woman cutting my hair) which has put me off completely. I just make do with giving myself a trim on occasion. TBH I'm not particularly bothered about beauty treatments. I do love nail polish but won't get a manicure (can't bear other people touching my nails) and I have a rather nice collection of polishes already.0 -
Had to go and spend something today. Just essentials so visited Tesc Hell as my DH calls it.
Got friends visiting tomorrow and I have everything I need to put on a great meal. I am even making 2 of each course then I don't have to cook for the next couple of days:j DH adores fireworks and bought some in October for NYE. I am going to try a persuade him to set off just 1 cake rather than the 2 he has bought. Don't know whether it will work or not.
Spent the day writing an assignment, completed half of it. Will do the rest on Friday as it needs to be completed by the 12th Jan. I don't know why I still need to prove myself but I do.
This is a great thread and I feel so much better talking with like minded people.

As you can see I,m up late - OH is having another snorathon night (manflu) and I was thinking.....
How do you all shop, daily, weekly, ad- hoc, monthly?
Until recently I worked the traditional 5 day week and food shopped weekly, using a meal plan and shopping list - now I work 2 long days a week and have been considering shopping more frequently, but I,m worried that with my hording and feeding tendancies, I would just end up spending more. We have an Ald! About a 10 min walk, 2 min drive away, this is where I do 90% of my shopping - I would love to just be able to buy food a couple of days at a time but not sure my psyche would cope- any thoughts greatfully received
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Kelpie? sure I was a Kelpie at brownies.
I have had the same mobile hairdresser for years, she charges £8 for a cut.I cut the girls hair, sons do their own.Hubby gets his 1/2 price at barbers because he is 1/2 bald haha.I don't use colour.
i do wear perfume every day and will buy pound shop copies if I run out of perfume gifts.I also wear lipstick every day and very often nail varnish.I wear other makeup rarely.
Burn out. I had it too even as a teaching assistant. So many friends have left teaching because of burn out.My son is in his first year of teaching English.I tried to dissuade him.I imagine he would be a very charismatic teacher. He hates it.I am encouraging him to get out whilst he has no responsibilities eg children. My daughter wanted to teach and would also have the aptitude for it but she listened to me and is training to be a speech and language therapist.I also encourage her to think about working just to live, rather than living to work.As a teaching assistant for many ,many years I had a job i was good at which i loved and enough money to live.A change of attitude and massive pressure to justify took the joy away for me. I am soooooooo lucky that by pulling our horns in I was able to leave. It has left an enormous hole in my life.I miss the children but not the hamster wheel.
Today I have been...shopping! It was insane.3 shops and I gave up.I bought and posted 2 birthday cards, bought 2 Mums cards, some smelly drawer things for MIL's b,day,A cuddly pig and a matching game for my cousin's granddaughter's christening and a pack of christmas cards.Sounds like the generation game.Phew thats me with my trips to the big smoke for a while.

*unlurking*
Slowdown thank you for your comments about Waitrose, I have read elsewhere very negative comments to someone shopping in there and I always feel bad when this happens on the OS forum, because I love Waitrose (even though I also shop in the market, and L!dl and Aldee, obvs.), it does not mean that one is less OS or less frugal!
Apart from the fact that it is much more ethical than other SMs, and as you point out, owned by the staff, it has some magnificent bargains and if you are lucky enough to hit the YS jackpot you can eat like Prince Charles for weeks, on a handful of quid!
*slinking back into lurkdom*Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
This thread is great!
I need to think about my spending more, I amble along and am quite good with my money but don't really monitor what I'm spending, put everything on my CC and worry bout it later.
I generally pay my CC off every month but its often tight.
So I need to be more organised and really think every time I shop "Do I actually need this?" and if the answer is no then don't buy it. I have enough clothes and shoes, make-up, toiletries etc.
I'm also going to bulk buy and batch cook more. I cut down the takeaways etc a lot last year but there's always room for improvement.
So I'm aboard!Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

Morning all, I have just landed and have come to my senses!
2015 is the year I knock some debt off my radar, stop buying stuff I don't need with money that could be used for better things.
I am a charity shop junky, which is great for cutting down waste - but I just don't need so many clothes, shoes handbags blah blah! I have set myself a tight clothing budget for the coming year. I don't need to buy any items of clothing until the weather warms up.
No more books for my kindle, unless they are free.
No more eating out 3 times a week, a bit more home cooking will serve me well.
I am in the process of a massive de-clutter in several areas in my life, and looking forward to just being able to BREATHE.
Happy New Year to you all, what I have read so far has been an inspiration. I am now in it for the long haul.

Can I ask your opinion on something if allowed? Someone on fb was talking about musclefoods. They do a meat package for new customers, meat is good apparently, it's £75 with free delivery and does look good but I'm not sure about outlaying that much. I'm rural so never in the supermarkets to get YSs. Has anyone else used them?Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.
