NOT BUYING IT! 2015 - A consumer holiday

I would without hesitation give it to a CS, Don't feel guilty about this as somebody may like and buy it and the money will go to a good cause. I always try to think what the person I am buying for would like and not what I want them to have. Like you said this may have been her property for sometime and she has got fed up with it. If she does ever come round you can always say its in the bedroom and leave it at that.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.000

Thanks Kerry. It's a loss we were expecting but still sad.Goldiegirl wrote: »...
However, I'm not going to beat myself up if we do spend any money, as long as it's mindful spending, and not mindless spending.
...
I want 2015 to be the last major de-cluttering year, and finally get to the place I want to be - to only have possessions that I use, enjoy looking at or have a significant sentimental value.
...
You've just summed it up for me, Goldiegirl. Responsible, mindful spendingAs for the decluttering - ugh! But I've done the kitchen today and if I do a little every day ...

Well seeing as I was going out for veg I decided to go to aldi for my top up shopping instead of waiting until Saturday and spent a grand total of £15.33.
i can't see any reason why I need to step foot in a food shop until the end of January...I have milk & bread in the freezer and have some UHT and part baked bread in the store cupboard. The only thing I may need is fruit & veg but there's a local independent grocers about 5 mins walk away so will go there if needs be.
And if I run out of cat food (unlikely) it's cheaper in B&M which is about 10 mins walk away.

I look in the charity shops for presents to give to people, but only those I know have the same outlook on life as we do and won't flinch at the thought of re homed things. Luckily my girls both think it's normal to do so and buy things regularly as part of friends gifts at birthdays etc. DD1 and I went into the city today as we wanted to look for a couple of specific things, hopefully in the sales. She got her fleecy pyjamas at a really good price but my waterproof boots are proving to be a challenge. I can see I'll maybe have to find an equestrian supplier and buy some muckers if I can't find leather ones. I bought 4 mugs in Ikea as some of ours are chipping (factory seconds to begin with) and a filleting knife to do fish and thinly slice whole salamis and chorizos which are cheaper bought whole and keep for ages but almost impossible to slice thinly, but no longer!!! The sales in the bigger shops were dire and dreary, I'm sure I've seen most of the items on offer over the past few years and didn't want them then either. Home on the bus to a nice cuppa and a lit woodstove and glad to be so. Spent £6.24 yesterday as I needed to get milk, bread and the paper and also got in that sum 2 bags of spinach, 2 packs of blueberries, 3 peppers, 2.5kg of potatoes,1 pack of watercress and 500g of lean beef mince so a good haul which will see us through to next weekend without needing anything else.0

Thanks amber03. And Mrs lurchwalker. I just felt it was on her part "oh god I've got to buy something....anything. Oh that will do" and taken this off her dresser a week before Xmas as i knew I was right ive just seen a FB pic taken by her last week and the ornament was there years ago....The gift was part of a set and she kept the other bit to go with it. Just a bit thoughtless as I know what she loves and bought accordingly. Not expensive but thoughtful... Whereas she's grabbed an old ornament off her dresser, well one part of it. Maybe she's going to regift part 2 next year. Hmmm
  :rotfl::rotfl: can't work out how I feel - All of them icons

This has never happened to me as I do use everything I've been given. But this year I have been given an ornament I don't like and don't want. I'm not ungrateful at all but I don't like it and don't want it need it and it serves no purpose. The giver likes this stuff and no doubt gave it to me because they liked it. Think £ land ornament. A relative gave it to me but never comes round here anyway. But I still feel bad getting rid of it.
Edited just to say I think this was on her dresser a while ago!!!!
I always used to feel bad about 'getting rid' of gifts I did not like, need or want but then I read in a declutter book that a gift should be given freely for the recipient to do with It what they want and if that means regifting or sending it to a CS then so be it. Since then I have no problems with sending items to a CS. Hope this helps.
I also have a gift, toiletry set, that I will probably never use and so this has been put into the bag of decluttering along with another set I received last year  At least it's a start on the decluttering. Still a long way to go.
Had a productive day cooking down the rest of the turkey. We got a whole medium Turkey even though there were only the 2 of us as we both quite like it and only ever really have it at Christmas. Didn't do too badly as I managed to get 22 meals out of it plus 15 meals for the dogs. OK so 4 out of the 5 dogs are only little lap dogs but I still think that was good going. There was not a scrap of meat left on the bones after I had picked them over after using them to make stock. I hate waste :rotfl:
In all fairness we do tend to eat reasonably small meals as we work on the principle that if we are still hungry we can always have something else to eat afterwards. We rarely do and since using this method my food bill has dropped substantially and we actually eat well.
Off to feed the dogs and do some more decluttering.
Chez xThat money talks I don't deny, I heard it once, it said "Goodbye"0 -
I usually wait a while before donating gifts to the charity shop, although this year I did donate a box of chocolates to CAPs gift box on sunday, I'm trying to cut back on chocolate so it was better to get rid quickly0

im on tea break from the depths of my kitchen clear out the first thing I clicked on to is my inventory system (relying on everybody to log whats needs replacing and sticking things back in the appropriate cupboard) was a totally naff idea on my part.
One of my kitchen units must back on to Narnia or somewhere as I seem to have accumulated huge amounts of the most random of items, still trying to work out how/why we have 19 packs of sugar free jelly
Bag filled for the food bank and a few small kitchen electrical's for free-cycle 6 cupboards down 12 to go it's lovely having such a massive kitchen but stuff does tend to get dumped then forgotten about on the plus side I haven't spent a bean since the 23rd but then other than a quick wander around Mevagissey yesterday for a breath of air I haven't left the house.
I also decluttered the kitchen today so thank you for the reminder about Freecycle. This is going to be funsavingqueen wrote: »Sorry for your loss annagaradir.
I have read a few random pages on this thread but need to start at the beginning. As I am staying put today feeling grotty, the perfect occupation.
Thanks, savingqhueen. I hope you're feeling better soon.
I'm waiting for dinner to be ready (HM Courgette & Mint Bake, HM Dry Roast Potatoes) and debating the merits of sloping off to bed with a movie (which is what I want to do) and writing (which is what I should do). I wonder if my angel or my minx will win tonight? Not Buying it 2015!NSDs w/b 29Dec14 1/70 -
First day in the shops since before Christmas - topped up on bread and milk and then home again. I also had to pick up my nieces birthday present but that's budgeted for in a fund for annual expenses and pleasing was below budget for a gift she'll love!
Christmas has been lovely so far - lazy days in, gentle walks and visits with family and all without spending a cent.
Congrats to the other mums-to-be, hopefully everything goes smoothly
annagaradair ~ sorry for your loss0
