iPad lost/stolen at hotel in Bulgaria

Looking at the legal protection for the supply of services in the UK, it says that the supplier must provide them with reasonable skill and care. In this case, where the hotel room is the service, has reasonable care been provided? Arguably not, as my property has gone missing whilst in the care of the hotel. I know that this is a UK law and not Bulgarian, however s75 protection applies worldwide, so would that mean that I my credit card company could be held liable on that basis (and so allow a claim under s75)?
I have no legal qualifications.
But my legal opinion is that you don't have a hope in hell of using S75 to get reimbursed.0 -
In reality, Bulgaria is the worst place for this to happen. Its run by m@f1a Failure to pay could result in lead boots in the river.
Best advice.
Pay up. Get a lost/stolen report. Deal with when u get home. Take hit in excess0 -
What comes with me when leaving my room in a hotel etc?
Phone,
Money,
Cards,
If there is a safe in the hotel the electronic stuff and passport goes in there. If no safe, the iPad is left at home, and passport comes with me.0 -

Imo the iPad was your responsibility but regardless the hotel have fulfilled their obligation by providing you with a safebox which you chose not to use. In all fairness they have provided the service but you were careless by not securing your valuables. I doubt very much the hotel with replace or compensate.. you don't have proof that you left it in your luggage and as far as they will be aware your just a chancer trying to get a free stay.
It also doesn't seem likely that your insurance would pay either as you have been negligent, you may have to just put this down to experience and a lesson learned.0 -
OK, I am exploring all avenues for this situation as I obviously don't want to be out of pocket. If I felt that I was negligent then I would accept the responsibility but my stuff has been taken from my locked hotel room by the hotel and moved to somewhere else in the building without my permission. My property was therefore out of my control and in a place where who knows could have accessed it. I think I've taken reasonable care of my stuff and I don't think hotel guests should be expected to chain everything down or lock all their stuff away. Considering that my iPad has gone missing without trace I don't feel that the hotel have taken a reasonable care of my stuff when they've had possession of it.0

I don't think its fair to call leaving my stuff in a single occupancy locked hotel room is negligent.0 -

I think this only works with 3g devices and mine is wifi only.0 -
When going anywhere I would never leave anything of value to me unattended.
If you value it, you look after it.
That is reality.0 -

I have certainly learnt a lesson from this- lock away anything of any value or keep it on me. I had taken my phone and wallet with me out of the hotel room and my heart sank a bit when I came back to my room and everything was gone.0
