Best time to put our house on the market?

Now or after Christmas/ new year?
I've been offered a new job in an area we have been 'browsing' for over a year. My partner works from home (although needs to be near a main line station). My new job is about an hours drive away so I can start work without moving and I have to work 2 months notice in current job, but obviously we don't want that long term and are keen to move but it removes some of the pressure.
We've never sold before and our concern is that by the time we spend a couple of days sprucing the house up (only a couple of minor jobs as we've been getting it ready all year), pick an estate agent and get the photos/details done it will be too close to Christmas for anyone to notice it coming on the market. Would we be better waiting until the first week of January? We've noticed a definite lull on the area were looking at moving to which has a pretty fast paced market so wondered whether sellers there are leaving it.

You can't hope to sell it without it being on the market, so the short answer is ASAP."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0

After Christmas Day when everyone has eaten too much and is bored at home they start looking at houses on the internet.
So spruce up and get the photos taken by an EA, they can market it quite quickly when then sense a profit.0 -
Thanks, that was my instinct too. Just got to hope the neighbours don't go too OTT with Christmas decorations

Perhaps get the external photos taken before they put their 18 foot neon Santa in the garden

Nothing worse than seeing a house up for sale in April with the christmas tree still up ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

That might have to be tomorrow! Let's hope for some blue sky. Last year our street looked like a grotto (we're end of a cul de sac) so I'm fully prepared for getting back from work on Monday to Blackpool illuminations. Thankfully it's the only annoying thing our neighbours do.0 -
If a fat bloke with a white beard and red suit views your property, you may be on a winner
