  • Never heard of airing the bed before ~ so I'm giving it a go today.......normally I like the beds in the house 'just so' much to my OH and children's annoyance.
When changing linen weekly I always air the mattress all day, but I was brought up to make bed straight away after getting out of it in the morning.

After reading this forum, it has really made me think - & I think thanks to you all....I'm gonna change my ways:T

I too air the bed I starighten the bottom sheet when I get up and then shake and fold my duvet into half, then half again and put it on the chair leaving the bed open to air until I go to bed at night I have done this all of my life as I think it makes it seem fresher to sleep in and a lot healthier.I wouldn't dream of making my bed when I got up.

I too like an aired bed, but unfortunately my darling hubby is still in our bed by the time I leave for work in the morning.

I guess the solution is either to train him to fold down the duvet when he gets up - or fold it down with him still in the bed!:rotfl:
In a better financial position than ever before (thank you MSE!). Moved back to Scotland and now trying to keep debt-free!

Or, air it when you get home from work ;)

Have been airing my bed for years and certainly makes for a 'fresher' feel, windows are also opened wide to air the room....depends on weather how long windows stay open!

i too am one of the 'fold it back' brigade to keep the bed fresh. I can't be bothered to change my bedding regularly - lifes too short, so I change my sheets about once a month. i sometimes wash the pillow cases in between, particularly my 'greasy' teenage daughters.

Yes, life can be ... especially when you don't change your sheets often enough ;) :rotfl:

    (Sorry, couldn't resist :o )
  • We pull the duvet right down (and flipped so bottom is topside, if that makes sense) during the day. Windows are open 24/7 so always fresh air. Bed gets remade when we get in it!

Change the sheets & duvet covers/pillowcases weekly, bed is left open and not made at all until late evening.

We try and turn the mattress every 3 months. I did try it by myself once, not successful. Mattress came thundering down and pinned me to the bed base. OH nearly wet himself with laughter before he helped me out. :(

DD loves her window shut and her room smells!! I always open the window as soon as I go in there, she can't stand me doing that. When she goes to her Dad's, she comes back and finds a sweet smelling room. :)

Duvet rolled back every morning and left back until bedtime. Bedroom windows open wide first thing then left on catch all day whilst I'm at work no matter what the weather. They are also wide open all night this time of year. Sheets changed every other week, though DH's pillowcase has to be changed weekly or looks dirty and I always use 2 pillowcases per pillow to keep pillows nice and clean. Mattress gets turned when I remember, probably every couple of months.
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion
