I was always taught to air beds. I just fold down the duvets every day and open the windows, after all if anyone is coming to see me they are not going up to the bedrooms and no sneeky peeking either ( not that I would care)because we have a downstairs loo.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I always leave the bed unmade. My mum taught me that it gets rid of any perspiration, smells and other unsavoury things. I believe she's never made her bed as my dad's first wife insisted on it being made and he hated it (this was 50 years ago!) :rotfl:

OMG! I wouldnt dream of making the bed as soon as I got out of it! all that moisture (sweat - from a menopausal female) being trapped all day! I shudder to think of it! besides, my nan (who would whip your plate from under you the moment you stopped eating so as to get 'her' washing up done), always taught us to let the bed air at least two hours if not until tea-time! my nan was the best housekeeper I have ever known - I bet she could have taught Kim and Aggie a thing or two!

I always straighten the bottom sheet and plump the pillows when I get up and then neatly fold the duvet and top sheet back on itself.

I then fully make the bed later in the day (usually when I get home from work unless my Mum comes round and she does it for me at some point as I think she thinks it looks untidy "unmade"- lol!)

I fold the duvet down to the foot of the bed, tidy the pillows and cushions and straighten the bottom sheet.

It gets aired and looks tidy too.

When the bed gets stripped, that gets done in the morning and it doesn't get made again until the same night.

Wonder how much of the "never bother airing" is down to those lovely cateloge bed displays?
Nicely made bed, nicely added throw, plumped pillows, nice decorative cushions ... may all look "nice", but I shudder at all the dust those items attract! (Plus the, non-aired look of it all). It's not like we live in cold, draughty houses anymore and need all those "extras".

'Elbow' is my mantra: "Throw those curtains wide .... " and open the windows and throw back the bedsheets/duvets: fresh, fresh, fresh (and far cheaper/healthier than Fabreeze/air freshner/plug-ins/synthetic alternatives ;) )

Oh, and don't forget to turn your mattress too (with each season and in rotation ;) top-2-bottom-left-2-right - saves a fortune on mattress "cellulite" :D )

I usually chuck the duvet on the floor as I get up. And the pillows. Later on I'll hang the duvet over the stair bannistairs. The window is always open 24/7, even in the depths of winter. And no radiator. I've never really thought of it as airing the bed to dry it out...I air the bed because if you don't it smells when you get back into it. And rooms with the heating on at night and windows shut definately smell awful in the morning. I has one flatmate who prided herself on how clean and tidy she kept herself and how neat her room and bed always were but her room always stank because she never opened her windows.

It was as I was stripping the bedding to wash this morning that I started musing on this...and now I'm about to go up and put clean sheets on the bed, knowing it's been airing for hours! Like many others I couldn't bear to just slide out and remake without a good airing! Still can't believe why these websites encourage people to do otherwise!

After what felt like the warmest night of the year so far, the bedding felt really clammy this morning - couldn't imagine not leaving it all open to air!!

It was so muggy last night my bed was "airing" while I was *in* it! :rotfl:
