Bra fitting

DD is at the age where she needs a her first bra. Despite being disappointed that it all shops near ne seem to have cropped tops she made me chuckle today.

She came home saying some of the girls have been discussing their bra sizes. I had to hide my giggle as she was talking to me on this serious issue. She said that one friend said she was a 30aa and then another followed shortly by saying she was a 36 aa and the last girl, obviously not to be out done was a 38 aa. Knowing the girls well, none would be bigger than a 30 chest. DD was curious as to how it all worked.

She has been to me to bravissimo but obviously not the place to get her fitted! I still remember where I went for my first one... Now a taxi place! Does anyone recommend anywhere?

Rigby and Peller is obviously the gold standard but Marks and Spencer do bra fittings and have a wide range of styles.

The best in out area are independents so not sure if you have any of those near you? We have an independent lingerie shop and a family run department store. Both are excellent.

Failing that M&S or John Lewis.

I don't know where you are but Rigby & Peller are now in Guildford as well as London.

Is she ok with going to get measured in a store? If she feels embarrassed, maybe you could measure her yourself with a tape measure, and convert to the bra size it comes up with. Then go and buy a few different ones that she likes from cheap-ish places until one fits properly, then you'll know which style suits her.

I would go with debenhams as well - my youngest dd has just been for first proper fitting - we had been trying to work out size ourselves for last few years! and got it very wrong! poor thing is 34F and is only 15 - she is blaming me!! :rotfl:
the lady at debenhams was very kind and discrette and put dd at ease.. and didnt just try sell us the most expensive bras - she bought in some that were on sale - managed to snag a pair of bras for £8 reduced from £24 :D

does your daughter have enough boobage to be in an adult size? i'd go with max's suggestion firstly, measure her yourself with a tape measure, there are loads of websites which give you pointers on how to measure correctly, and which bra size that translates to etc.

My DD is 13, she's been wearing "proper" bras (as in not crop tops or bra-type vests) for a couple of years. She's still a small adult size though (32 a or b depending on the style of the bra) so its easy to buy her cheaper bras and try them for fit. When she felt she needed something more than the "first bra" ie heading into t-shirt bra style, I measured her and then we went shopping just in your usual stores (New Look's teens dept, Marks & Spencer, even Primark although until she was actually into an adult size they didn't have anything suitable, but she buys her bras there now as she prefers t-shirt bra style).

I second Debenhams. I have been to several stores and always found them better than M&S. I find they are also good at suggesting what bras would suit you.

I've found our local House of Fraser fitters the best, far better than M&S.

M and S didn't want to measure my teenage daughter this time last year for a first bra because it was the run up to Christmas and they were too busy! They said come back during the day during the week when they were less busy (and she would be at school!). I measured her myself and went to look for some bras for her and realised they had none with a small enough back size for this age group anyway (large London store).

We ended up going to Triumph where the assistants were lovely and made a huge fuss of her for getting her first bra and were like lovely big sisters (they were all in their early 20s). She got some lovely pretty small size bras which she grew out of within about 2 months and we've gone back there again and again for re fittings and they have always been lovely. We tend to buy 1 or 2 in store as they measured us and then buy the rest cheaper (same style and size) online via eBay or similar.
