as you say they have come close to plasma but its still not as good image wise, especially for moving images. Even with the decent LED 4k screens there are multiple problems (something I am currently experiencing with 2 new Panasonic TVs)
You may be right, but it is not a new situation.

VHS and Betamax were two video recording systems in the 1980s. Sony's Betamax was widely acknowledged to be the better system, but due to the power of the film producers (and the marketing men of the VHS consortium), Betamax disappeared into oblivion.

The same is now happening to plasma (but I for one am not convinced it is better ;))

I think you are lucky in what has been offered to you. Take the money and run. You will not find a LED tv of today to match plasmas (not for that money) but LG still make plasmas.
When I had a problem with a Panasonic tv that I had bought from Leeds Panasonic store, neither party would acknowledge the problem. Panasonic UK totally refused to accept that the problem existed. I was without a tv for 2.5 months inc over xmas period.

I don't agree it's anything like the Betamax analogy. The simple truth is that current LCD production is far cheaper than plasma technology, add that to the increased power consumption of plasma TVs it was inevitable (sadly) that plasma tech would eventually fall by the wayside. Roll on OLED. :)

You think who has been lucky? If you mean the OP I doubt he cares seeing as he hasn't been back since November!
