I think the OP is entitled to have Panasonic ordered to reopen their plasma screen factory, rebuild all the machinery needed to make plasma screens, and to have a hand made TV built just for him.
It should then be delivered personally to him.
AND, Panasonic should be ordered to keep the factory open for the duration of his five year guarantee just in case his set needs replacing again.
Jeez - some people!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
I've got a Panasonic plasma TV...the OP can have it for £800...win win!0

You'll have more difficulty if you're only looking for plasmas given only LG make them now. You might want to stock up and buy a few as there is every possibility LG will cease production of plasmas also.
They already have, about a month ago.

Ah didn't know that. No idea why that article refers to an official verdict once samsung announce their plans - they already announced them in july that they were going to stop production of them by the 30th November - today actually :rotfl:
Looks like plasma is truly dead then. Oh well. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I want this thread to last forever.0

Must admit, I had a little chuckle when I read this thread.
There is a similar thread over on AVforums from around 2011 - Guy buys a Plasma from John Lewis, its breaks 4.5 years later - JL bend over backwards to please him but nothing works, multiple repairs, the offer of a brand new Panasonic (which apparently made his wife faint in the shop as it flickered so much) or a refund minus 4.5 years use. He expected a either a huge refund or a top-spec model - I think in the end he was banned from the store and JL's solicitors or something were involved. Quite an epic thread that was sadly never updated.0 -
Unreasonable demands checklist:
1. Complain about problem.
2. Be offered (a choice!) of fair solutions
3. Scream "I know my rights" (but don't bother to check what they are first.)
Take the refund, buy a new TV, get on with your life.
I love the car analogy too. If my car broke, over a year later, and the dealer couldn't fix it, and they then offered me a full refund (completely ignoring depreciation), I'd think they'd lost their mind. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Avocados - I've spent plenty of time on here trying to put people right on the pub rumours about LCD vs plasma technologies. You sound like a plasma fanboi! I would be taking the £1000 off Panasonic, seriously. Now goto a shop and buy yourself a nice 4K TV. I don't see you mention the size of the Pana, but if you take that set home, set it up right, and think the Pana still had better pic quality, I'd be visiting the opticians. I think you really need to reassess LCDs. They've replaced plasma because they've got 'close enough' to plasma, use less energy, and are cheaper to make.
You CAN still buy new plasmas, so take the money and do that if you like (you'll have change!) but clearly Panasonic cannot or will not give you the last of their stock.
I've got a 50 inch Panasonic full HD plasma you can have for, say, £400.0 -

as you say they have come close to plasma but its still not as good image wise, especially for moving images. Even with the decent LED 4k screens there are multiple problems (something I am currently experiencing with 2 new Panasonic TVs)‘It ain’t over 'til it's over’0
