That isn't Panasonic's problem, and the law won't help you either.

Richer Sounds have plenty of Plasma sets starting at £399 for a 50" model.

They currently even have stock of a 50 inch 3D Plasma Smart TV for £899.95. Which just happens to be a Panasonic.:)

And it has a free 5 year guarantee. Better be quick tho'. It's limited stock.

    Hi,

I purchased a Panasonic TV in 2013 with an extended 5 year warranty directly from them.

The TV was a Plasma model (important to remember that fact)
    The TV cost circa £1000
It failed over a month ago,
Panasonics authorised repair centre(ARC) picked it up under warranty, repaired it and re-delivered it.
Using it that same night it was apparent the issue was still present
Panasonics ARC again picked it up and took it away.
30 days passed and I had heard absolutely nothing.
I complained to Panasonic, escalated the complaint and have been offered a replacement LCD (NOT PLASMA) or refund of original purchase price as TV not going to be repaired.

Take it, take it yesterday and run, run for the nearest Richer Sounds.

Seriously - there is sometimes no pleasing some people nearly everyone would LOVE to be in the refund situation you are.

I wonder what Richer Sounds policy will be when the new tv breaks, can't be repaired and no comparable plasma model is available.

Guess we will find out when the OP creates a new thread in a year or two.

But I cannot buy something of comparable quality with said refund.
    .......
A refund will do no good as I cannot buy a new Plasma TV anywhere.

Why not buy a second hand Panasonic plasma set.
If you were to buy one that was originally sold in 2013 then you would be back in the same position as if your TV hadn't failed.
  • Have I read this right? The op is getting a full £1000 refund but is saying it's not enough. Is the op suggesting Panasonic should refund £3000 because that's the amount the op thinks they need for a similar spec LCD TV?

That's how I read it, can't believe it, but some people want the earth.

    What were the specs?

You'll have more difficulty if you're only looking for plasmas given only LG make them now. You might want to stock up and buy a few as there is every possibility LG will cease production of plasmas also.

In other words, perhaps now is the time to embrace LED/LCD technology. There are pros and cons to all different types of tv's.

Yes the colour contrast/black wont be as deep but it will be barely noticeable and they are better picture quality/sharpness than plasmas. I know when my parents £3000 plasma broke, they replaced it with a £1600 LCD that is far superior in quality and specs - although they did purchase their plasma when it was still relatively new technology.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • they offered you your money back or a £1000 TV result in my eyes
sorry but op is a !!!!!!

OP, take the refund. There are plenty of places you can still source a Panasonic plasma from and probably for considerable less than you originally paid.

    What model did you have?
  • If Panasonic were reasonable, they would re-start their plasma TV production line and make a TV exactly the same as the OP's original set and deliver it to her gift wrapped. Anything else is out of order.
