A new debt free journey

Emailed the mortgage advisor so fingers crossed will hear back soon. He doesn't work on Fridays and I'm away next week so made sense to email, plus i always find it helps having things in writing. Even if I can port my mortgage, the fact that I've just reduced my term probably isn't going to help me because to move I'll need to increase the term again and I reckon that means new deal and a bunch of fees. I thought I was doing the sensible thing reducing the term, but these things happen.
On the plus side, if I do move, I should have enough equity to clear my debt and start afresh. I made it clear to the mortgage advisor that I want to do that so just want him to confirm it's okay. Fact is, if I can't do that then I can't move....
I'm also going to cancel my parking permit outside and park up the road at weekends like I used to. That'll save me £65 a month which I can put towards any fees. Speaking of, I put £100 in my savings account today so have £230 for any legal fees. It's not much but its a start. My study plans will have to go on hold until this is sorted.
Glad the week is over! It's not been the best one! On the plus side, holiday on Sunday. So time for me to get packing!0 -
Evening LCC,
Just came across your diary whilst reading a few I haven't read before.
Sounds like you've had an eventful week what with the shellac place, the council and the meet up with work. Hope you can find someone to fill your place.
Have a lovely holiday xMummytogirls x0 -
Sounds like you've had a pig of a week LCC. I'm sorry - seems like it's been one thing after another for you. At least you're being proactive about it though and putting plans in place. Hope things quieten down for you.Not giving up

Evening all, been AWOL on holiday for a few days. First let's talk about a little negative that happened... I drove into the back of someone the other day..... really angry with myself, I'll lose 7 years of no claims and my insurance will probably sky rocket. My insurance is due in September so I doubt very much I'll be able to save enough in time, so I might have to bite the bullet and pay monthly next year  but it is what it is. It was very low speed and I have no damage to my car. There was only a scratch on the other person's car, but they're claiming, which is fine, I fully accept responsibility for it. The only thing I'm angry about is that they're claiming there were two extra passengers in the car and that they all have whiplash
fair enough I crashed into them but there's no need to lie and exaggerate to get some free cash, that has really p*ssed me off. But I can't do anything about it, the photos I took at the scene don't prove there were only two passengers so my insurance company said they have to take their word for it.
Now onto the positives!! I've had a fab few days away in Ibiza with OH just chilling, going to watch sunsets on boats and generally just having an amazing time. I also came home with almost 100 euros so have changed that money back into sterling and put it straight into my bank account. I've put that money into my 'moving fund' which now stands at £315. Not bad for a week's work!! :rotfl: I hope to add a little more to it by the end of the month but we'll see how we go. I need to sit and do my budget for the next month, I'm going to change my credit card payment from £200 to £100 so that I can save more towards the move. I paid another £100 off today so I have got the total down to £5,400, which is what I wanted and helps me hit my 40% target!!
I didn't hear anything back from the mortgage advisor so I have to call him on Monday and try to get an appointment asap. I've seen a few places I'd like to view but I don't want to do anything until me and OH have seen the mortgage advisor and know exactly where we stand. I'm pretty sure we can afford the ones I've looked at, but I always err on the side of caution over these things.
Finally some very positive news, I'm going to be an auntymy older sister is pregnant, which is fantastic news, I'm so happy for her and very much looking forward to spoiling my niece/nephew when he/she puts in an appearance! :T

Couple of spends yesterday: £30 on food, had to restock my cupboards after holiday. OH is off to Glastonbury next week so I'm hopeful that I should only need to buy the bare minimum now as I've got plenty of food for myself in the fridge and freezer. I also spent £15 on some vest tops and socks. My socks are all getting holes in them to the point where I've sewn them up about 3 times and they're still getting holes! So I decided it was definitely time for a "treat"! :rotfl: The vest tops are just basic black ones to either wear on their own or put under a blouse etc. Again I needed these, the white vest tops I already have had food stains on them
:o:o and the black one has a hole in. I'm still keeping them to wear underneath blouses though lol.
Today I need to collect a parcel from the post office, give the house a tidy and either go for a walk or go to the gym. I also need to buy some mascara as I had to throw mine away because of the conjunctivitis (which is finally better!), but there's a shop near me which sells that for £1 so no big expense. I'd also like to find some fabric dye as a black hoody of mine has a bleach stain on it so I'm hoping I can dye the whole thing and make it presentable again.0 -
A pretty uneventful and boring couple of days, until my conjunctivitis decided to make a return last night!! I'm back in the minor injuries hospital as they told me to come back here if it returned so that they could refer me to a specialist. So I'm just waiting to be seen. Genuinely thought it was all healed but apparently not
I also had a work event today up in London which I really, really wanted to go to! It looked so interesting and a member of the royal family was due to be there. But hey ho these things happen! I'll look on the bright side, I've saved about £20 in train fares :rotfl:
I've been able to make my mortgage appointment and the advisor has assured me that I won't have to pay exit fees, which was my big concern. So now I just need to try and save for legal fees and selling/buying costs... I don't know if OH and I will be able to save the full amount before we find somewhere but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
I have seen a few places I'd like to view which are within what I believe we can borrow. Not going to arrange anything until we've had the appointment with the bank though just in case, I always err on the side of caution. It's got me thinking though, it's only a matter of time before I can clear my debts when the flat is sold. It's quite daunting really to think that after nearly 10 years that day is edging ever closer. I'll probably not be much better off financially as I'll have the bigger mortgage but at least I know my debt is for the right reasons and I'll have something to show for it!
I almost feel like a bit of a cheat paying off my debts in this manner, but at the end of the day, we need to move because of the effects of this development, and I can't afford it without using some equity to clear my debts. The valuations I've had are more than I ever could've hoped for, but obviously all comes down to whether someone actually wants to pay in that region. Only time will tell.0 -
Another hospital appointment tomorrow for the eye, yay! This time with a specialist.I took today as sick leave, I missed the event I should've been at and had no equipment to work from home. I spent time cleaning and tidying instead, at least my eye can't stop me doing that!! I got some much needed tasks done, the house is ready to go on the market now! Unfortunately while cleaning and scrubbing my hob I've managed to break it and now it trips the electrics. Either have to get an electrician out or buy a new hob, not what you want when you want to sell your house! Who knows, I've read of people who have had a similar issue and once it dries out it works again. I live in hope haha. We shall see.0

Saw the eye specialist this morning and have a plethora of drugs to use now! £16.80 spent on prescriptions, which is pretty much the money i saved from my train fare yesterday.
The hob seems to be almost back to normal, just one ring not working which I can deal with, it could be fixable too. Been naughty and looked at properties while waiting for my appointment and made some general enquiries. We shall see. Back to work tomorrow. I guess at least I've saved money on petrol!!0 -

Thanks Florence, I've just subscribed to your diary and will try and read it over the weekend.
I've woken up VERY disappointed at the EU news. Seems like the economy is in free fall already, I hope it's just temporary while the shock sinks in and that things soon recover. It really is a step into the unknown. But... it's what the majority wanted and we have to do the best we can with the cards life has dealt us. I pray it doesn't lead to another recession.0
