This story comes round every few weeks. They cut the price for a few days, then it creeps back up to what it previously was (or even higher), then they announce a price cut ...
And repeat.....0 -
Heh - for once I have an almost empty tank & the information In The Right Order!0
-
However, the forthcoming price drops don't necessarily mean these
supermarkets are the cheapest fuel providers.
Indeed not, and most of the time around here there are 6 or 7 non supermarkets in the cheapest 10.0 -
of course they are
I held off filling my tank until I was just about running the car on vapour but finally gave in yesterday and filled up, I wish I'd gone to the bookies and put money on the price being cut this weekend0 -

Certainly looks like it's going in the right direction and I haven't seen any rises at my local Asda for couple of months.

As Asda sets a national price cap across its 232 forecourts, drivers will pay no more than 126.7p/litre for diesel and no more than 123.7p/litre for unleaded.

As Asda sets a national price cap across its 240 forecourts, drivers will pay no more than 123.7p/litre for diesel and no more than 119.7p/litre for unleaded.

Unlike other supermarkets, Asda sets a national price cap across its 245 forecourts. So the price cuts means drivers will pay no more than 121.7p/litre for diesel and no more than 117.7p/litre for unleaded at Asda.0 -
I agree with the above. This grip was true a while ago, when it was very tedious with tiny price cuts but the price remaning stubbornly around £1.30 a litre.
Still with 60% (ish) of the price being tax (not forgetting the tax on tax!!!) it will even out at some point.
Anyone care to explain why the theory that you raise less in tax the higher the tax rate doesn't apply to fuel or alcoholMixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Price_elasticity_of_demand#Determinants
Specifically, neccessity:
"Necessity: the more necessary a good is, the lower the elasticity, as people will attempt to buy it no matter the price, such as the case of insulin for those who need it."
I don't think alcohol is inelastic as you can always downshift a brand in the supermarket (or stop buying it).
Petrol and to an extent, tobacco, are inelastic though.0
