Preparing for Winter V

Went chazza shopping today with a friend who is also on here! We also mooched round a garden centre where I bought a long arm microfibre cloth thing to help wipe off the condensation in the car windows when they mist up as the temps get cooler.
I didn't get any winter prep stuff but lots of lovely ceramic pots to house plants that I have propagated and been gifted over the summer.
Tomorrow, Sunday, I have plans to work through some of the things in the list in my sig below!
Raging fire tonight as I need to feel cosy. Nearly 24c after burning a load of logs and coal!Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!
Curtain pole installed in the living room
Paint curtain pole
Window quilts for landing window & french door
Add shrink film to the kitchen door & insulate
Insulate front door
Bubble wrap windows & french door
Wash front door curtain
Blind for the bathroom
Find wrist warmers & the wool socks!
Wash heated throws
Wash duvet & wool blankets
Buy vest tops to go under clothes and PJs
Buy nets for bathroom and kitchen
Buy or make blind for kitchen8 -
Got flu jab yesterday at Superdrug - bit of a scary disclaimer to read/sign but the sore arm that appeared almost immediately was damped down with paracetamol. Hopefully £9.95 well spent.
I ended up sleeping for almost 11 hours last nite - my sleep schedule is strict with no need for alarm so this was a proper shock! OH said he wanted to let me rest bless him. And I woke up feeling fine today 👏🏻For the last several winters we’ve only used the GCH in November-March for 1x hour in morning, noon and evening (3hrs total PD)As I’ve said on here before the rest of our space heating is covered in evenings by our multi burner in open plan lounge/kitchen where we burn self sourced free wood that has been seasoned by us.
We have our GCH set to frost mode so outside that heating schedule it will come on if the temp dips to 7c 😱I WFH in a titchy box room and have a space heater in there which I set at 18 degrees and have a heated throw/ foot warmer/fingerless gloves.
at night we have an electric underblanket which is a lifesaver - and I’ve got a soft knit hat that I wear to keep my ears from hurting in any coldLancashire

How’s the tree removal going?MrsCD said:.
Winter preps are in full swing in the garden. We're working on taking a huge fir tree down, a bit at a time. It has numerous trunks, so we're stripping the branches lower down as far as we can reach, then we'll see what we can safely do ourselves to reduce the height. If we need to get someone in, we will.
Any progress? 😊Fruball said:

Thanks for asking... I'd love to say I have ticked off a few items on the list but tomorrow is another day
I have tomorrow off work so I do want to get some bits done.
How was your weekend?

I don’t blame you - sometimes weekends are too precious to be working on to do lists 🤣
we started eating a big frog at the weekend - painting the kitchen ceiling which has now turned into painting all the ceilings in the whole house 🙄😠

Painting always seems like it is going to be a quick and easy job until you get going . But once its done its done and its a job that wont be back on your list again any time soon!Current debt approximately 5000

Absolutely @ET22 - and am extra motivated as have had to remove some thermal curtains to get the job done. The sooner it’s painted the warmer the house can be 😂Lancashire

@SuzeQStan, the tree is a work in progress, and will take a while to do. We're filling the brown bin every fortnight, but once they stop we'll have to take the bits to the tip ourselves. The branches have been stripped for a friend to use in his wood burner, eventually.
Today, I started to paint the 4 doors in the hall. I did 2 doors, frames, and the dados around the hall. 2 doors and frames left and skirting boards to do tomorrow. I had a list of things to do this year, and time is marching on!2025 Fashion on the ration

Just a thought and it might come to nothing but have you tried advertising the tree on the free sites (olio, free cycle etc) to see if there is anyone who would cut it down and cart it away for the wood? Sometimes conifer wood is a struggle though as it’s not as sought after for burning.MrsCD said:@SuzeQStan, the tree is a work in progress, and will take a while to do.
