Preparing for Winter V

Our local Cancer Research shop has been selling these as well. Cheaper than we could buy elsewhere.
We haven't put ours back on the bed yet as still not cold enough here.

I have been putting the blanket in the bed between the sheet and the duvet to have on for about 30 mins before bed to take the edge of, but thanks to the menopause once I'm in bed I'm boiling so still in my 3 tog guvet - tried to move to the 6 tog and we were both sweating buckets. Have set thermostat down to 17 as noticed it had been coming on the odd morning and haven't found the house cold once - so it turns out there is at least one benefit from it!
DS tried to claim it was cold - he was in a t-shirt - said until he had a decent jumper on and was still cold he had no grounds to complain. Turns out he'd just woken up, it was 11 degrees outside and he's still sleeping under just a sheet - he soon warmed up!
Taking DD to uni tomorrow, she's got a single duvet as her bed looks like a small single (thankfully she's only 5ft 3) but she has a big sherpa blanket and heated throw as back up:eek::eek::eek: LBM 11/05/2010 - WE DID IT - DMP of £62000 paid off in 7 years:jDFD April201713 -
Phew what a bit of a weekend.
Weather here seems to be all over the place and not sure what its doing.
MIL ordered a new divan bed, so two bits of the base with draws built in and a double mattress, then realized that the man delivered it to her front room and at 70 years old and with osteoarthritis there was no way she was going to get it upstairs and assembled so spent the weekend at hers, moving her old divan bed downstairs and then putting the new bed upstairs, the headboard on and then wrestling a double mattress by myself. suitably shattered but I know that she is going to have a good nights sleep now and be comfortable.
Also was going to re-purpose the two old divan bits into garden raised beds, until I had the brainwave that my son could do with a larger bed than the single he had, so we moved the divan base and old mattress (which was 18 months old and immaculate) into our house up an L shaped stair case and into his room. So now I have his single divan bed base to make into a planter. So win win for all I think but good grief I am realizing I'm not 21 anymore.
I also have to finish off yet another one of husbands projects that he has started at her house and not finished. First was the garden pond he filled in and then did nothing with so when she fell twice I took it into my own hands and made it a pretty and functional (and safe) garden for her that shes now slowly filling with gnomes...and now shes had the kitchen ceiling replastered after a leak and whilst husband prepped it with a 50/50 coat - its been left in an unfinished state for about 2 months now so tomorrow I will be donning some old clothes and sorting that, as well as painting a patch of wall upstairs that hasnt been painted in about 3 years since their bathroom was done and the airing cupboard sealed. Also need to put a coat of weather proofing paint on a piece of wood on the front of the garage that again I fixed because husband didnt.
So looks like tomorrow will be a busy day.
I also need to sort our bathroom as apparently they pre paint the roof when it was replastered and all the paint is flaking off in big clumps.
I need to get my daughters bed made and her blankets ready for her to snuggle in. Shes full of cold atm and has been off school since wednesday so I suspect she will be back in tomorrow so Ill try to get as much done as I can.
I also stripped our bed the other day and put a big fleece blanket as a base sheet instead and have been having great nights sleep the last few days. I need to sort sheets for the new beds though and make sure we have blankets washed and to hand if the weather suddenly turns.
Also now need to try and source some wood for the new raised bed.
It never ends does it.Time to find me again16 -
It’s forecast to be much colder tomorrow (Monday) as a northerly sweeps down the country- last Friday morning when I swam at a local quarry it was 16° air temp as we dressed- tomorrow it’s forecast to be just 4-6°! I’ve got my little flask for a hot drink, and will take extra jumper and shawl, and just going to make a batch of Anzac biscuits to scoff when we’re dressed!Take care, everyone- a couple of distinctly chilly days incoming!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Noticed the damp air was back this morning, so the dehumidifier might make an appearance soon. Also got the blankets back out for the evenings, love snuggling underneath one as it goes dark. Gorgeous sunny day here after all the rain yesterday. Noticed on my fb that they have had the first snow in the Cairngorms last night.x:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.0013

It's been lovely here today though the rain lasted all day yesterday and on until about 3am. I've brought in a few houseplants that had been enjoying being outside, just in case we get frost, though I don't think it will get quite that cold.
Our winter prep has been cutting back climbers that were smothering a tree: it means the garden will get a better start in spring but also will have more light over winter. I noticed quite a few tiny toadstools, which makes it feel autumnal. We also cut some logs to dry for the wood burner in future years.
This evening we had the heating on for about an hour and a half and it made a difference, though it was warm in the sun during the day.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

I got a thermal door curtain and wooden pole in the sales last year.
Kept putting off getting it sorted, but have just put it up behind the door leading from the front porch to the hall. Only took about half an hour. The thought of doing it was way worse than the minimal effort the job took to complete. Having a coffee, feeling smug.11 -
It felt chilly in my house so I put the heating on for an hour. The plumber who fitted our new radiator did something to our boiler as he said it wasn’t working properly. It feels much hotter than before which is good!
I have a class tomorrow and I’m going to bring a warm drink in the thermos flask I bought in the summer.10 -
I was glad of my little thermos of hot cordial after swimming in the quarry this morning! And the car roof, as I wheeled my bicycle past it, was white with the first frost of the season, albeit light…!
I lashed out extravagantly on a big bunch of dark red chrysanths- they are such an icon of autumn!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Lovely blue skies here today but flip has it been chilly. My living room is north facing so doesn’t get the sun and wow did I feel it. Had my body warmer on which helped. According to my weather app, the next week or so will be dry and warm. Hoping to keep the heating off till October.:j Debtfree and and staying that way.:j3-6 month emergency fund, No.61 £140.009
