Dug out my yarn and crochet hooks today. Going to make some more cuffs (bit like fingerless gloves but simpler) as I’m find gloves annoying and these warm the wrists and hands if your jumper sleeves are too short!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?10

I had been half thinking of buying a new duvet this winter. Some of the pockets in the current goose feather and down one are looking a bit flat now and the filling has bunched up in other places, but it was an expensive one originally so it seems extravagant to just replace it. I'm wondering whether taking to a laundrette in for a service wash and dry might fluff it up again - £20 to clean and refresh it is more frugal than splashing out of a brand new one, after all.
It's a superking size so won't fit in my washing machine at home, and I'd rather pay to have it completely cleaned and dried in a day without having to drape it on the bannisters etc.
Has anyone any advice (or horror stories) about getting duvets washed, before I rush headlong into this?

I,ve washed a 4 tog king size duvet in my washing machine. It was a huge squeeze getting it in and a bigger one getting it out after spinning. I dried it outdoors draped over my rotary airer in warm sunshine and it dried well but it was a Ma made fibre one.
it would think paying to have a commercially wash would be well be worth doing. I,m all for making the most of what we have rather than buying new especially if it was an expensive one. . If it doesn't work you can always perhaps cut it down and use as a sofa snug or perhaps even a mattress topper for extra warmth.10 -
I work in a cleaners we wash and ry duvets all the time we can never get them back in the bags they come in they are put in huge dryers with dryer balls and come out big and fluffy11

I got a collect and delivery place to wash our synthetic duvet and I am sure they dry cleaned it, even though the advert was wash. It wasn’t particularly clean looking.
Last time I took it to the laundrette for a service wash (work full time and didn’t want to sit and wait) - the result was much better and well worth it.
then we upgraded the washing machine to 9kg and I can just get the 10 tog king size in there (all seasons duvet and the 4 tog fits no problem)working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?7 -

New cat blanket being knit using 2 strands of wool. This is the 3rd one in a fortnight. You can't compare the heat of knitted to say bought fleece.
Cat news, took him to vets and they wouldn't neuter him because he's in great shape and they said he looks like someone's cat. Explained I've been feeding, de fleeing, brushing and taming and made a shelter for him for past 6 months and he's been on lost and found since December last year and he smelt and looked a stray in April. So... they are keeping him 7 days to see if an owner comes forward
They think he's only 2 so I've said if they can get him into a good shelter please do but not the rspca. I feel like I'm losing one of my own but it comes down to stupid money.
Nannyg at 15 he will be firmly stuck in his ways now lol.6 -
